Got stung by a wasp, cleverly hiding inside the handle of the sauna bucket.

Big wasp hurts a lot 😬

Reminded me of when I was pulling up anchor on the foredeck of our boat in Greece and took a step back without looking. Onto a wasp, which stung me into that soft skin between the toes.

I had the anchor out of the ground already, so couldn't stop to hold my toe. @vaviurka back at the helm was wondering why this routine operation yielded so much swearing until I limped back 😆

Stainless Bob tack welding our solar arch on deck of our boat in Brighton in 2016. The only part of the refit I didn't do myself.

I thought he was doing a pretty good job of this. I later found out he's got a stack of welding certifications, including one for work on nuclear power plants :surprised_pikachu:

He could weld stuff other welders called impossible, like a new exhaust pipe into the rotten aluminium body of a diesel heater.

A guy in a blue shirt and a slim-fit welding mask is spot-welding a stainless steel solar arch on the aft deck of a sailboat. He's not wearing gloves or any protective clothing. The background are other boats, water and a large concrete pontoon with yellow and white holiday bungalows on top.

I wonder if this guy ever finished his boat projects.

Just made a login on noforeignland.com and have been adding info on the amenities available in Simon’s Town since most recently of those were missing. Would have been to know about this while we were cruising but it’s also just nice to hive back to the cruising community by adding local info. #cruisingLife #SimonsTown #CapeTown #noforeignland

We enjoyed sailing to Brazil and spending time there, we can't really say we "sailed Brazil" as we stayed in one place for four months, but Brazil is definitely worth a sailing visit. Here's a nice article with lots of practical info: blog.noforeignland.com/sailing #Brazil #SouthAtlantic #sailing #cruisingLife

Songbird in 2018, berthed in Licata, Sicily.

A 40 ft sailboat in its winter berth in Sicily. Things are lashed down for bad weather, but the water is calm. There's a folding bicycle on deck. Rows of boats in the distance, behind a town on a hillside.

Hurricane Milton is on its way and each forecast has it slipping south. It was just upgraded to a Cat 1. Addison and I moved last night in the dark while it was calm and we're nestled in the mangroves. This is going to be a long week.

I’ve been dreaming of sailing to/in/around Helsinki since I visited the city seven years ago, before I even got (back) into sailing. But taking our bown at @svtropicaldawn all the way there would be too much. I have never chartered a boat but it might be a good option.

Brought the boat back to Hout Bay (where it was when we bought it and where we lived aboard for half a year) from Cape Town (where we were moored since we came back from our trans Atlantic trip). What I would have hoped to be a four hour sail ended up taking 8.5 hours of motoring and we were blown onto our neighbour when leaving and ended up on top of two boats while arriving. #sailing #CapeOfStorms #cruisingLife #CapeTown #nautical

It is actually quite impressive to see the South Atlantic circular sail we did the past two years. #sailing #SouthAtlantic #cruisingLife #map

Bad cat. That's her name. Got a passport saying so.

Found by a friend, as kitten, in a dumpster, inside a tied up plastic bag. He adopted her as ships cat.

Loves to get greasy and once snuck aboard a French sailboat, got spooked, jumped into an open locker and disappeared into the voids of the boat, reappearing in a different locker, covered in black engine oil.

The frenchman was grateful, he could never get in there to clean the spill he said.

The iconic rock of Gibraltar, doing its thing:

Pushing up the warm, moist easterly (levanter) seabreeze and cooling it to condensation temperatures, creating a dense cloud that looms over the city. Local British weather at the southern tip of Spain.

Its other thing was to provide a high cannon emplacement overlooking the low plains of Spain, making Gibraltar unconquerable through history and inspire the Montgolfier brothers.

View of Gibraltar from the marina of La Linea, which is just on the other side of the border in Spain. The rock of Gibraltar, jutting out of the flat surroundings is crowned by a cloud that shows the shape of the updraft on the eastern side where it is created and extends darkly over the west where most of the settled part lies. The surrounding weather is clear blue skies. A few boats are docked in the marina, framing the shot.

Yesterday: our initial plan was to go further southwest for another day, but the wind was supposed to come from that direction, and turning NW the next day (ie now today 😜), which would again be against us when coming back.
We decided to go with the wind, to Vallisaari in Helsinki. Probably nicest sailing one could wish for, 5-6m/s wind beam reach, 17nm in 3.5h, mostly with autopilot! I had enough time to navigate by hand 😀 #sailing #cruisinglife

Here is also a pic from the way there.
In the harbor we tested our newest companion to check the water temperature for us 🐤
