#CrypticaTarot

Hello!

You are now aware that your #CardOfTheDay from the #CrypticaTarot is the King of Cups

The following key words and phrases may or may not be relevant: tolerant, helpful, confident, wise
#tarot, #divination, #cartomancy

The King of cups card from the Cryptica Tarot. It is depicted as six vertical slices of 6 different historical king of cups cards. Because of how standardized the imagery was, each card depicts a bearder man, holding a large goblet in the right hand, with the left hand in a horizontal across the belly pose. The knees of the legs are splayed outwards, and the face has a serene grin. The six strips are only roughly aligned, but stil show that the pose carries over through all six different decks.

Current state of the #CrypticaTarot bot:

I have added more cards to the pool: Planets, Wands, Cups, and some erratics. The total pool is now 80 cards.

Some things I am considering for the future is setting up a "Card of the night" both right here on the same account, that would post a reversed Cryptica Tarot card each evening. Also maybe a midday #CrypticaLenormand card post.

So yeah, basically I made enough words about cards to add more cards to the pool this week. The End.

Hello!

You are now aware that your #CardOfTheDay from the #CrypticaTarot is the Knight of Wands.

The following key words and phrases may or may not be relevant: confidence, charm , boldness
#tarot, #divination, #cartomancy

The Knight of Wands card from the Cryptica Tarot. It is depicted as a silhouette of an armored knight holding a torch. The knight's head has been replaced by the front half of a horse. The silhouette is on red, and has radiant border echoes.

Current state of the #CrypticaTarot bot:

So, currently the bot is a script run on my personal computer, in a terminal I have to keep open. I often forget to restart the script after a reboot, so there will pretty certainly be days that the bot doesn't post, and probably other days where it'll post more than once.

The "time of day" poll just closed as I was making this post. There's zero consensus, but a very slight preference for "pre-dawn for the sickos". I'll be experimenting with posting times to see what times of day actually get a little post interaction.

Currently the bot is loaded with a pool of 31 cards (extended Major arcana). The bot posts a random card from the cards it has not yet posted, or a purely random card selection if all the pool has been posted before.

I'll be slowly adding more cards to the pool, I just don't really like trying to verbally describe my artstuffs. I have approximately 350 more cards I could load into it.

Anyway, how about another poll?

What should be added next to the Tarotbot?

The Happy Squirelleton card from the Cryptica Tarot. It is depicted as a luminous squirrel skeleton on a dark green background, reminiscient of X-rays and other medical scans. The card is numbered as XIII as a reference to the Death card, but has a second phantom X indicating it's true number of 23

Ok well so far the first two #CrypticaTarot cards from the tarotbot have been accurate.

yesterday: Star, something dormant in my life is re-emerging and reawakened specifically yesterday.

today: Rotato! I literally was moving furniture earlier, and rotated a desk 180 degrees. Then decided I liked it better before and rotated it 180 degrees again 😸

Hello

You are now aware that your #CardOfTheDay from the #CrypticaTarot is Rotato!

The following key words and phrases may or may not be relevant: Now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down
#tarot, #divination, #cartomancy

The Rotato! card from the Cryptica Tarot. It is depicted as a large neon green icon of two arrows pointing at each other in a circle. The neon green text on a black background reads: Rotato! Uh, oh, you got Rotato'd! Rotate all cards in the reading 180*. Discard this card and draw a new one to replace it. Begin the reading again with the now-reversed cards.

Hello

The Dexterity card from the Cryptica Tarot. It is depicted as a pair of hands making shadow figures with candlelight. The shadow is the complete lineart for the Rider Waite Smith Strength card.

I guess I'm gonna have to give up and admit I can't figure out all the things I need to for a #CrypticaTarot card of the day bot. I just don't know enough about python, or how to use python to post to gotosocial (or more preferably friendica, but I know only like 6 people use that so there's zero tutorials available). I don't know how python libraries work, I don't understand how to use an "API" to make things happen.

I guess my biggest dilemma now is if it's worth the brainwidth to keep trying, or to make a deal with a code-knowing person to code what I'm looking for.

Ug, I think I have to start learning to code. I want to set up a #CrypticaTarot #CardOfTheDay #bot account.

Would you believe that all this self-hosting stuffs I'm doing is just because I want to make a #CrypticaTarot bot?

It's not exactly true, but since when does truth matter anymore?

@remilia I think also I got used to using "personal" social media as more of a brand/broadcast style when I was still promoting #CrypticaTarot before I quit using Meta stuff.

I ended up developing a lot of canned/scripted responses, but those aren't conducive to making internet friends😸

Alright, so I'm not gonna wait for the poll to finish before I start telling you about magpie #tarot decks. The supersimple version is that they're decks made up of single cards taken from other decks.

Though certainly not the origin of the concept, The Alleyman's Tarot (most funded tarot kickstarter to date!) popularized the idea, and a community kinda sprang up around the concept. Folks started splitting decks they had and trading cards with others in The Alley community.

The Alleyman's Tarot itself had ~13 death cards, multiples of several other majors, the four suits you'd expect, a fifth "strange suit", and a "second arcana" full of non-tarot yet major-like cards. It even had booster packs with even more alternates and extras. It was intended as a launching point for the deck-user to curate/customize however they saw fit.

The Alleyman's Tarot was also the primary inspiration for the #CrypticaTarot
