Ukrainian refugees have generated more than €720 million for the Czech Republic, exceeding the country’s spending on aid to Ukraine, according to České Noviny and outgoing Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

Fiala stated that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Czech spending on assistance to Ukraine amounts to roughly €3.85 billion.

This includes military and economic aid as well as costs related to hosting Ukrainian refugees.

Over the same period, the Czech budget received €3.27 billion in taxes and social and health insurance contributions paid by Ukrainians.

The country also received €1.3 billion from the EU as compensation for military equipment and weapons supplied to Ukraine. As a result, the net profit for the state budget comes to €720 million.

The Czech Deputy Prime Minister Vít Rakušan added that 170,000 Ukrainians are currently employed legally in the country.

According to Fiala, in total, Czechia spent 91.3 billion Czech crowns (approximately 3.72 billion euros) on hosting Ukrainians and providing military assistance to Ukraine. In return, Czechia received 104 billion Czech crowns (around 4.3 billion euros). Thus, the difference amounted to 12.7 billion crowns (approximately 525.5 million euros).

"The Czech state is certainly not losing by helping Ukraine, quite the opposite. Of course, this is not the most important aspect of the matter. We must not ignore the issue of justice, the just struggle of Ukrainians, security considerations, and everything else, but the numbers speak very clearly," said the outgoing prime minister.
