Thrilled to announce that I’ve just logged my 73rd DXCC country! Huge thanks to TY5AD for the successful contact. It’s always a rush to hear a new prefix emerge through the noise, and Benin was a real treat to catch today.
Did you know? Benin is widely considered the birthplace of Voodoo (Vodun). Far from the Hollywood clichés, it’s an official, highly respected religion here, celebrated every January with a national holiday.

One payoff from the CQWW CW contest. An all-time-new one! I worked Chatham Island (ZL7IO) on 10 meters during the contest and received LoTW confirmation for it today. Huzzah!
Chatham Island is located in the south Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of New Zealand's South Island. It is said to be "halfway between the equator and the pole".
After waiting for our #hamradio guest licenses for #Albania for several weeks we still haven't got them, are now already in the country, and have only three business days left until the departure. Every morning I call the office in Tirana only to be put off to the next day.
At least now we know how Albania is so high up in the #DXCC Most Wanted Countries List. Right between Fiji, Gibaltar, Andorra and San Marino.
Sometimes I feel like FT8+LOTW is cheating. As long as I sit at the radio desk an hour or 2 a day, the #DXCC confirmations roll in.

I started 30 years ago in ham radio. I am the first YL from Mexico to obtain 6-meter DXCC (only eight on XE land) and 50 MHz [VHF/UHF Century Club].
My first experience with the Magic Band was in March 2023. [| learned] very fast that you must be present, even if you do not copy anything, because a new country or a new grid can surprise you in just a few seconds on a "dead" band. I learned the magic of backscatter, long path, and short path. My modest station consists of an IC-7300. In my first year [of working toward DXCC, I used] a Hentenna on 10
meters with 50 W and [worked] 48 countries and 250 grids. [In my] second year, [l used a] JK65 Yagi [and worked] 578 accredited grids and 106 countries; I applied for 6-meter DXCC in 2 years, with 104 countries worked and confirmed.

But what it doesn't say:
a. All CW;
b. All real QSLs;
c. No remote QSOs (at either the DX station or at my station);
d. All from a single location in Colorado.
I'm quite proud of this one; it was tough. I started on it in earnest in 2018. My TX antenna is just an inv vee with the apex at 27m. I tried a couple of RX antennas, but they were rarely any better than the TX antenna on receive.
So here I am. 100 #DXCC confirmed in #lotw. Actually nothing spectacular in times of FTx digital modes but:
- CW #morsecode
- 30 years old Alinco DX-70 transceiver with external keyer and self made single lever paddle (hacksaw model)
- indoor 1.2m magloop antenna (say: fancy dummy load)
- four years and almost 10 thousand QSOs
