Three bright red trumpet flowers growing together in a triangle shape, two on a level and one below. The flowers are dangling off a vine, and are directed straight at the viewer, so that you look straight down the trumpet bit, and can clearly see the bright yellow stamen with a horizontal anther in each flower - which look like the two angry eyes and angry open mouth of a Flower Monster, lunging angrily towards us. A couple of green leaves behind it on either side look like the Flower Monster's arms, and emphasise the lunging motion. In the background an out of focus brick wall and a sliver of stone pavement.

New instance, new #Introduction!

Hello! I'm Anna, but internet friends usually call me Moth or Mothy, and I now answer to that in real life too.
Swedish, grew up in England, travelled around a lot, now live in Venice; posts and boosts in a wide range of languages as a consequence. Infinitely curious about almost everything, a huge fan of the random and the whimsical, and there will probably also be a fair amount of politics, because in this godforsaken timeline ultimately everything comes down to some flavour of politics (but always with a CW). All humans have equal human rights, none of us are free until all of us are free, fash can fuck off, this is not a discussion.
The stories we tell ourselves, as individuals and as a society, make us who we are, and we need to collectively and intentionally tell better stories if we're going to build a better world - working on ways for us to do that.

What makes the texture interesting are deep scratch marks in the brick in the centre of the photo, which look like giant furious claw marks, as if an angry Wolverine has taken out his frustrations on the wall with both hands. A bent drainpipe frames the top right hand corner, and throws a black shadow on to the wall.

The photo is taken looking up, so that most of the background is uninterrupted pale blue sky, but the lower fifth of the frame is a flat-topped white wall, and the lower bit of the streetlight - a bit of the pole, two curved scrollwork arms and the bottom edges do the bottom two lanterns - casts a clear black shadow against it.

Black and white photo taken at night, looking slightly up and along a narrow Venetian street, criss-crossed by a tangle of washing lines at various angles, some with laundry on them and some without, which look to me like the complex rigging of a mad imaginary boat with odd towel- and trouser-shaped sails. The houses on either side of the street are in shadowy darkness, you can just make out the shapes of windows and shutters, but more as texture rather than detail. There are also some power lines strung across the street, and there are three bright lit streetlights in a gentle curve shape rising from the centre bottom of the frame, to slightly right-of-centre about a third of the way up the frame; the eye is drawn upwards to the fourth point of light, the almost-full moon, a third of the way from the top of the frame. The image feels mysterious and secretive.

Colour photo taken looking up a high ivory coloured wall, which is in three sections, all with slightly different heights and angles, giving a jagged line of roof which runs across the frame at about a third of the way from the top. In the centre of the frame are two tall rectangular windows: the left one filled in with the same material as the rest of the wall so only the thin frame stands out in relief, and the one on the right has a white curtained top half and what looks like brown cardboard in its bottom half. A drainpipe runs horizontally below, making it look a bit like a winking robotic face. The top third of the wall is in bright glowing sun, but the shadow from the building opposite falls across the lower two thirds with sharp contours, giving the robot a shadowy face, with the shadow of a short chimney stack like a button on the top of its head. The sky above is bright blue, with some white smoky clouds on the left.

This is a bit difficult to explain, but here we go: detail shot of a wall, with a series of rectangular corners, expanding from the top left hand of the corner of the image, like a stack of paintings or papers or books laid one on top of each other, in order of size. Or, like a chart showing different paper sizes. The first and smallest, in the top left corner, has three small bricks, standing out from the wall, in a sort of frame. Next is an ornate carved relief border, with ribbons undulating to form circles which have flowers inside them; this too is contained within a narrow frame, like that of a painting, which casts a dark and jaggedy-edged shadow . The rest of the wall is uneven textured plaster, which has fallen away in the bottom right hand corner to expose some rough brick. The whole is in shades of pastel red, and basking in sunshine.

Colour photo of part of a construction boat. The left half of the frame is blue metal deck, stained and rusted and corroded, with a thick rusty-coloured rope coiled up in a circle, and one frayed end knotted to the edge of the boat. The right half of the frame is the boat's container for rubbish, which is caked with grey-brown dried cracked mud, and there is a thin plank of blond wood lying diagonally across the bottom right hand corner. There is a thin strip of green canal water along the top of the frame. The feeling of the image is one of tools having been emphatically downed, and the equipment left to very much take care of itself while its operators are off having a siesta.

It is only two windows wide - the one on the right is covered by closed dark green wooden shutters, and the one on the left is only partly visible due to the exuberance of a rampantly flowering jasmine which covers almost the entirely of the house, like a roiling waterfall of thousands upon thousands of white blossoms and green leaves. The sky behind is periwinkle blue, faintly streaked by some white wisps of cloud. I wish I could photograph the scent too, which is intoxicating.

A crystal-clear reflection of a two-masted boat in perfectly still water. The white hull of the boat runs along the top of the frame, and the black masts, without sails but with lots of lines of rigging at various angles, are pointing downwards and their tops almost touch the bottom of the frame. The cloudy sky above is rendered various shades of pastel bottle-green in the lagoon water. The image feels like a glimpse into a literal upside-down world, which frankly looks a lot more peaceful than our own.

The window has a thin dingy white marble surround, dingy white closed shutters, and is fronted by a slightly brighter white metal grille which has a geometric vaguely Art Deco-esque pattern of lines and rectangles. The wall in which the window is set is painted a pale yellowish colour, but is waterworn and stained with steaks and blotches of beige and grey. Attached to the wall in the top right hand corner is a small ornate black metal streetlight, its curves and crenellations in contrast to the straight lines of the window. The lamp itself is unlit, but a flood of warm yellow light shines from the right from a source out of the frame, casting a strong shadow from the streetlight, and again emphasising the contrast between the softer curvier lines and the colder rigidness of the window.

On the left hand side of the frame is an ornate stone column public water fountain, with a gold tap shaped like the neck and head of some mythical creature. The water is flowing slowly enough that you can see individual droplets falling from the mouth of the tap. In the little trough underneath sits a round tufty-feathered pigeon, enjoying the drips of water landing on its head. The damp paving stones around it glow a shiny gold in the setting sunlight, and the grey-flagged whitewash-walled piazza behind is otherwise deserted. The image feels quiet and warm and like the world around is slow and sleepy, and for me encapsulates the mood of the siesta hours of a southern European summer.
