Here's the one I picked, at least for this composition. Ilford Fiber Warmtone, dev'd in Ansco 130, toned in Harman Selenium toner at 1:3 for 2 minutes. Shot on T-Max in 4x5 at Thingvellir (Iceland).

I got nailed by dry down for the fiber print but I'm almost there! I'm rather happy with my fiber version of my Simpleasel and hope to (finally) have that as a product soon.

I also printed this one in the darkroom that winter. One of my very first prints. I was terrible at it.

It's taken me a while, but I'm happy to announce some updates to our carrier lineup, starting with the C760. Finally! I've been hard at work trying to perfect multi-material printing and improve the quality of our products as a whole.

Some customers have already seen this with our newer camera scanning tables. The bottoms now have a TPU anti-slip skirt. This has been working well and I like it much more than the adhesive cork we were using. Ironically I would have expected that to have been more complicated than colored printing but that turned out not to be the case. In fact folks may remember I teased an early Omega D2 carrier a while ago. I've been working on it since that time.

After lots of work and with help from the truly amazing folks at both Prusa and Push Plastic, I'm proud to say we now have colored engraving/infill! For now it is exclusive to our direct store (bitbybitphoto.com), white (other colors may follow depending on interest), the C760, and is a small value-add. We hope to eventually offer this as an included preference though this will require further upgrades to our print farm to do so and until we do are making it more of a premium option.

We will be adding this option to our other carriers soon and will also add this as an option on our eBay and Etsy stores as well at some point in the future.

I'm very excited, if you couldn't tell! Thanks to all our customers for your continued support and encouragement! As a teeny tiny two person business (just me and Mrs. BitByBit Photo and on rare occasions the kiddo when he needs extra money), it really means the world. Our goal has been to be a positive force for good in the growing world of analog photography above all else.

(Those wondering about the Epson carriers - worry not, I'm still hard at work on those too!)

Happy Printing!

Hey #BelieveInFilm afficionados, I know a guy in Amsterdam offering a HUGE custom roll of Ilford Baryte paper he had ordered at the factory, it's like 120cm x 30 meters and he wants to sell. Contact me here if interested #analogphotography #BlackAndWhite #DarkroomPrinting

Beseler 23C users! I'm looking for one or two folks to test out my new under lens filter tray system. This is similar to my Durst M601 and Omega D2 systems. It uses a custom lens board and associated filter tray (which accepts the Ilford under lens filters).

If interested, send me a PM!

With all the half-frame craze going on with the launch of the Pentax 17, we've had a few questions about if we are able to make half-frame carriers. Yes we definitely can! This one is actually for me so I can make some prints from roll I shot through my Pen-F while on our Iceland trip!

Because it's 2024, there's no reason not to use ubiquitous computing to make contact sheets in real time, not least so as not to waste photo paper - which is expensive. So I spent a weekend making an iOS app that inverts the negative to positive in real time - with the option to save the positive image - thus allowing a pre-selection of the most interesting photos. #filmphotography #DarkroomPrinting

And so it begins (re-begins?). After getting the darkroom lab in Lusiada into shape, time to do it on my own studio. These are the first results. Travessa dos Algarves, Belém, Lisboa (2024) #FilmPhotography #DarkroomPrinting

Another spiral case, this time for my 50mm enlarging lens! Check out the 2nd photo for what I was using. This new design works much better! I chose a nicer filament too (Atomic Filmanet Carbon Fiber PETG, the same stuff I use for my lens trays and things). Again not sure if this will be a product or not but I plan on updating the cases for all 3 of my enlarging lenses.

For the filter cases, I appreciate the folks letting me know their interest! I'm pondering the best material to make those in as a default though I was gonna have some color choices just as I do for my 120 canisters. Among the color options I was thinking of a clear natural PETG (which tends to be more like a frosted). There's a ton of combinations of filter sizes and number of filters so I'll probably make these for the sizes I already have first.

Playing with my new @josefprusa XL more. What a fantastic 3D printer! At present I only have the 2 head but this allows me to fill in what was previously engraving and makes things like the top frame size much easier to read. I only have a single XL (it's one of out 7 3D printers) so I'm pondering how to approach this for all my products which currently have engraving. Maybe a to-order option? Not sure, but multi-material printing is awesome!

I'm really excited about seeing if I can update my scanning tables to use TPU gaskets instead of the adhesive cork I currently use as the anti-slip skirts. That could make a HUGE difference.

Toying with the idea of a drop-in replacement LED light source for my Durst F30 enlarger. Tried an angled mirror in the bulb housing with the light from an iPhone, and it does produce an OK image. Could maybe even do colour prints with a big controllable RGB LED perhaps? #DarkroomPrinting #darkroom #filmphotography #believeinfilm

So the little bridge in our village was demolished to be replaced in the new year, and of course I took a couple of rolls with me to go watch. Does anyone have any safe light recommendations for darkrooms? I have one over the enlarger (it’s old). I’d like a second one for over my development area. Is $60 or so a good price for one to hang from a rafter in a basement? Thanks in advance.

Thinking back to the first month of quarantine in 2020 when I made my very first positive contact print from a paper negative. It measured just 35mm but I was extremely proud of myself.

A 35mm film camera sits with two black and white contact prints. The resulting positive digital image which was very blurry look at my porch plants.Me silouetted in red in the darkroom (bathroom) making the contact print.
I've made a minor cosmetic change to the Simpleasels I wanted folks to be aware of. I've had to switch back to a smooth build plate which means the top side of the tops and the bottom side of the bases will be smooth instead of textured. The texture looked really cool and classy but otherwise did not have any affect on how the product functioned. I've been having issues with bed adhesion using the textured build plate which is a common problem when using PLA. I had thought I sorted that out but unfortunately not.

I'm using PLA for the easels because it is stiff (this is why I use it for the negative carriers as well). I could use another plastic, such as PETG, which prints reliably on the textured plates, but then it would be more bendy than I would prefer given the application.

I will be updating the photos for all the listings when I can, but wanted to let folks know in the meantime.
