Estaba hoy pensando, después de ver ayer la de #SuperMan (que me ha gustado) que hubiera estado bien que #Snyder terminara su saga con algo parecido a #Injustice (Superman se vuelve un dictador, termina derrotando a #Darkseid pero no suelta las riendas, ...) y que el giro hubiera sido que los restantes miembros de la #JLA tuvieran que saltar a otro universo para buscar ayuda y reclutaran a otro Superman para pararle los pies: el de Brandon Rough siendo ya el de Kingdom Come.

I should’ve realized Darkseid was back. It would explain so much.

Obviously I’m being silly about Darkseid, but considering what I wrote about the Anti-Life Equation when I reviewed Final Crisis, well…

The Anti-Life Equation is so terrifying because it’s not just mind control, it compels the surrender of free will. Those who have submitted spout slogans about how it justifies anything, how it’s so much easier than the struggles of life and love. It’s insidious, because psychological research has shown that decisions do take effort, and it is easier to offload tough decisions to a schedule, a policy, a leader, etc. The brain likes taking shortcuts around cognitive load.
There’s an appeal to never having to worry about making the wrong choice.

And it does seem like we’re seeing a lot of people submitting to that appeal in order to justify harming those who haven’t.

Part of the appeal of authoritarianism is its simplicity - the promise that one strong leader can cut through complexity and solve every problem. Democracy's messiness, frustrating incrementalism, and constant compromise are features, not bugs, but they make for a hard sell, even if the alternative is worse.

Weirdly, this reminds me of something I wrote about Darkseid's search for the Anti-Life Equation, which he deploys in Final Crisis:
