I don't know how I never thought of this, but this is going to be HUGE for prepping #DataSittersClub books! ๐Ÿ’–

TFW that example you used in your #DataSittersClub book on copyright for something that's only feasible for the rights holder to do... Now exists because the original author did copyright clawback on her original contract and she's making it happen.

Digital humanities folks: the #DataSittersClub really wants to hear your feelings about AI for our next book. We've got a short, easy survey with a box at the end where you can vent as much as you want. Please share around to DH-adjacent librarians, students, developers, all welcome!

The #DataSittersClub is back with @anasalter.bsky.social @lucidbard.bsky.social & @readywriting.bsky.social talking AI and pedagogy, with examples from the "DH Programming Pedagogy in the Age of AI" class. Even if you're anti-AI, please fill out the survey! datasittersclub.github.io/site/dsc23.h...

Fun fact: the Baby-Sitters Club books have had very little editing to keep up with slang or technology (tiny things in the first handful of books, then nothing) but switching out "thongs" in reference to footwar was one of those changes. #DataSittersClub

Sneak peak of the next #DataSittersClub, "Dawn of the Coasting AI", with @anasalter.bsky.social & @readywriting.bsky.social! "Dawn on the Coast" is a weird BSC book and not for everyone, and we know this one won't be, too. But we'll have a little survey about AI & DH at the end for your feedback!

The #DataSittersClub is back and we're talking zines! @readywriting.bsky.social checks out a collection of handmade books (manuscripts to zines), and tries making 4 zines in 5 days out of earlier DSC books! We also interview tech zine pros @b0rk.jvns.ca & @omarieclaire.bsky.social of Wizard Zines!

Me: Thursday night, gotta sit down to publish the next #DataSittersClub for #ACH2025. Oldest kid: OK so can you make me a lich shirt for the last day of D&D camp? I have plans... Bonus kid, sleeping over: Space Phoenix, maybe? Me: ๐Ÿคจ Yeah fine I can't say no to this. #DHmakes

Pssst! Just in time for @readywriting.bsky.social zine-making session on Friday at #ACH2025, we'll have a new #DataSittersClub for you all... including an interview with @b0rk.jvns.ca & @omarieclaire.bsky.social of Wizard Zines! ๐Ÿ˜

Throwing this out there: if any LaTeX experts would be down for collaborating on writing something up, this feels like it could make for a great #DataSittersClub.

This memoir through text analysis was a delightful public transit read today. I could weigh in on some of the pieces (especially sentiment analysis), but despite the different subject matter, it feels like there's a kinship with the #DataSittersClub here. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I am so so excited for this! We were just thinking of a #DataSittersClub on BookNLP; maybe @readywriting.bsky.social and I should start that one as a Multilingual Mystery with our French translations!

My great-grandfather, a geography professor, wrote popular press books about the geography of Europe to help people understand the news better during WWII. Sometimes I think about how that echoes with what we do with the #DataSittersClub.

Definitely going to need to tackle BookNLP for a future #DataSittersClub, including what to expect in terms of data cleanup/normalization to get good results. A personal narrative that references family members named (in part) after one another is hard mode, w/ false clustering across generations. ๐Ÿซ

I woke up early and the words were finally there to say something about this year. For the #DataSittersClub I wrote about Rebecca Munson and how I ended up with purple hair. This is part 2 of that story: what happens when you pick up the purple and don't put it down and let it change you?

Yikes! When we did the #DataSittersClub HathiTrust Mistake, we just meant it was hard to use and was missing the kinds of materials we were looking for (other middle grade/YA). Was planning to give our BSC books in translation to UofI to include in Hathi but maybe we need a new plan with this news.
