A pinkish red day lily with a yellow throat. One of the three larger petals is half pale pink, with slightly darker veins of color through it, like the flower color got diluted in one section.

Two blooms on my favorite daylily, ‘Catherine Woodbury’ in the garden this morning. My great uncle grew many kinds of daylilies and judged them for shows but I like this variety so much that I don’t think I’ll ever grow another. Two daylily blooms still on the stalk, sunlight lighting them and casting delicate shadows on the petals. The three main petals are a gentle shell pink and the three smaller ones between them are a paler shade. In both the petals grade to a beautiful green-yellow in the center. Pale yellow stamens with orange tips curve outward from the green center. Around them is deep green sunlit garden foliage.

Well, our #daylilies are fizzling out fast this year but at least we have lots of true #lilies starting to flower.

This beautiful golden tiger lily is very reliable of a little fleeting.

I love the bright lemony tones to the petals.

Lilium leichtlinii var Iwashimizu is supposed to be the true form which only grows on the island of Honshu in Japan.

It has waxy lemon/golden petals which are dotted with brownish red oval spots.

A couple years ago I had an orange daylily bloom, and I think the one this year may be a stunted version of that one? A vivid orange daylily blooming in sunlight. The petals are large, normal compared to the one I just posted. It has darker red orange veins on the petals, and a yellow center with a narrowing streak of yellow bisecting each petal. Its stamens are normal too.

A closeup of the pollen coated stamens of a purple reddish daylily. There are six stamens, all pointing upwards. The flower petals are thick and crisp, with darker purple red veins. The very center, where the stamens grow from, is yellow, matching the pollen on the anthers.

My day lilies are beginning to blossom, starting with these lovely red ones, soon to be followed by the frilly double orange ones. In the field, the first wood lily opened yesterday, and today there are 5! (I'll get a picture when it's not so wet out.)
