Last night I watched DEATH RACE 2000 which stars David Carradine, probably best known these days as Bill from Kill Bill. Made in 1975 it also features a young Sylvester Stallone (!), a year before Rocky.

It was produced by the infamous low-budget film producer Roger Corman (who passed away last month).

And well it's nuts.

The basic premise is that a totalitarian govt has taken control, and every year there is a race across America where to succeed you need to run over as many pedestrians as possible on the way.

It's has a wild tone, with moments of gore and nudity. But it's the dark humour with a goofy tinge that's the strangest. There is an actual staging of a Wile E. Coyote trap that is hilarious.

For lovers of cult cinema.

#Highlander 2 Yellowknife is by far the wildest script I have ever read.

Imagine #DeathRace2000 meets #TheProphecy and you're getting close...but you still can't imagine the maddness that is contained in this script.

I really hope it's made more widely available someday...it's just WILD!

The craziest thing is that there are several parts of this script that eventually made it into Highlander 5: The Source!

로저코먼은 대충 찍는거 같아도 걸작이 팍팍 나오는데...

7~8년만에 한 편 찍으면서 사람 피곤하게 구는 스탠리큐브릭이, 잭니콜슨 눈에는 얼마나 같잖아 보였을까 싶습니다.

Two of the cars from Roger Corman’s grindhouse classic Death Race 2000 can be seen in the background in Earth Girls are Easy. Considering one imagines this film being marketed to "MTV Scum," I’m not really sure who that Easter Egg was for … well … I guess the answer is weird-ass paracinema fans several decades later!

Recently re-watched Death Race 2000 for the Mastodon Bad Movie Club! Think the best way I can describe this is an Oliver Stone-esque social satire on a Lloyd Kaufman-esque budget. An all-star exploitation film cast coupled with Paul Bartel's dark comedic musings make this grindhouse classic worthy of National Film Registry preservation, imho. Here's a drawing of David Carradine as Frankenstein!
