#DegreesOfFreedom

> 2011: Joseph Simmons, Leif Nelson, and Uri Simonsohn publish a paper, “False-positive psychology,” in Psychological Science introducing the useful term “researcher degrees of freedom.” Later they come up with the term p-hacking, and Eric Loken and I speak of the garden of forking paths to describe the processes by which researcher degrees of freedom are employed to attain statistical significance.

I think the discussion we had in latest #degreesoffreedom episode is even more relevant in light of the recent turn of events here in the Netherlands.

The electoral result has reopened for me the wound left by Brexit, which I though closed by now. That feeling of not belonging and not being welcome, besides all signs saying the opposite in Groningen is there and hard to ignore.

Recently @TSarampalis@twitter and I met with @L_deJonge and Leah Henderson to talk about bridging science and society and educate to build societal trust.

Perhaps I was too naive with my opinions, but this discussion was quite transformative for me and I am still wrapping my head around some of the points we touched upon
