Received this beauty in the mail today and it was such a nice surprise. I had honestly forgotten about it and the boost of knowing I contributed to something good this year really brightened up my day. 2/2 #desertbus2024 button writeup for @Keab42

The LED on the arcade button was driving by 4 AA batteries through a 555 LED Breathing circuit. Resistors and capacitors were experimented with to get the right duration of gentle breathing.

The shell was painted using Musou Black ultra matte paint, and sealed with Future brand floor polish.

For @Keab42 specifically, but as info for all, here's some info on how I built the #desertbus2024 Random Dance Party button.

Exterior shell was created in FreeCad and printed in PLA. It was sized to roughly match the outer rim of a 120mm arcade button.
The button actuator is wired to an aftermarket remote lock control system for a car, connected via relay to a Raspberry Pi. "Locking the Car" bridges two pins on the Raspi which then send a signal to the Desert Bus Backend to start a dance party.

it's a small thing but I'm really happy with the colour of this year's shirt. I've been trying to make a point of breaking out of a colour fashion pit I've been stuck in for years now where every Tshirt I own is either dark Blue, Dark Grey or Black ^^

Desert Bus 2024 was amazing, glad that I woke up just in time to catch the thank-yous and the final bus-down live for the first time.

I have a lot of thoughts and feelings, but this exchange between two (wise) dogs summarises it best:

Gooood morning everyone? Did you know that getting a bunch of sleep is very good for your mental health?
Another Desert Bus, another *checks notes* 1.25 million raised? Before the store drop even? Heck. I'm glad I'm part of the VST and I'm glad this thing exists.
I'm also actually glad to have my one out of every seven weeks Saturday shift today, because I think I'd be at loose ends at home ... But also glad there's no students in. Time to ease back into life. #desertbus2024

I'm making a copy of the #DesertBus2024 random dance party for YT music (because I don't use spotify) and I'm sure it's going to RUIN my recommendation algo for weeks.

Posted more than usual about Desert Bus this year, regularly scheduled posting will resume now.

That said, this year's was...about the best possible timing. @Graham_LRR as you said during the end, we all needed that. A shot of hope to the face for a week doesn't cure all ills, but it sure makes them easier to face. And that's important.
