While I was out foraging, the garden had a visitor from another planet. Well, it looks like it could be from another planet, but it's just a caterpillar of an Old World Swallowtail (Papilio machaon). A species of butterfly that's beautiful (and reasonably big) also after metamorphosis.

Photo shows a closeup of an Old World Swallowtail caterpillar on a wet soil on a sunny day. Caterpillar is roughly 7cm in length and 1cm in diameter, having 13 sections, 11 of those have a pair of conical legs on each side at the bottom with the remaining two sections being its head and the tail. Caterpillar has smooth skin that is bright and vivid, almost fluorescent lime-green with thin black rings between each section and thicker black half-rings tapering towards its underside with equidistant and longitudinally symmetrical intense orange dots over them, 6 dots per section. Very strong contrasts and vivid complementary colors of its color scheme make it appear out of place on the loose, subdued color garden soil.Photo shows a closeup of an Old World Swallowtail caterpillar on a wet soil on a sunny day. And here's a crop to near-macro magnification on the June bug. Also increased saturation and adjusted levels a bit for a more punchy look.

More mementos from the garden, this time a June bug (Cotinis nitida) on my cardoon and a Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica) on oregano. All below shot using a full-frame prime Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM at various apertures between f/2-3.5.

Some mementos from the garden today. Who said one can't do detail photography with an ultra-wide lens? All below shot handheld, using an ultra-wide full-frame prime (Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM) at fully open aperture.
