The Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication (IT&T), Dr. Umar Saif, announced that Pakistan will launch 5G services by July-August 2024, with 300MHz spectrum up for auction. Under the caretaker government, 13 out of 15 goals were achieved to boost the IT sector, including allowing IT companies to retain 50% of export revenue in dollars, resulting in a 32% increase in IT exports.
Additionally, a telecom tribunal will handle disputes, a research fund for mobile phone manufacturing is established, and e-Rozgar centers for freelancers are being set up. The government also approved the nation's first space policy, allowing communication services via low-orbit satellites. Dr. Saif emphasized the need to enhance the optic fiber network before 5G launch, and 10,000 e-Rozgar centers are planned to boost IT exports by $10 billion annually.
