A woman in Canada who had severe intellectual disabilities ended up in solitary confinement in a jail because she ‘fell through the cracks’.

Her caregiver burned out so she was placed in a group home.

The home said it couldn’t accommodate her because she kept trying to leave.

The psychiatric facility was full.

So they stuck her in solitary confinement.

A vile and tragic failure of the entire system to protect one of the most vulnerable among us.

This is what happens when systemic ableism is not addressed. No one cares what happens to people with disabilities.

There’s little outrage about this event. No one to advocate for her or speak up on her behalf. We must do better.

Migraine core is falling asleep with an ice pack on your face and waking up with your eyesight all blurry from the pain and the weight of the pack.

(I have enough layers between me and the quickly warming gel pack, there is no brain damage this way - I do it safely. It is just something that I do when the pain gets bad and still need to take my nap.)
