Going into the mod menu and seeing the 672% increase in reports (submitted and resolved) in comparison to prior months is frustrating. I wish I was better at code so I could help our admin beyond finding ideas to implement.
My chronic illnesses has been in a flare cycle due to in real life health complications plus this nonsense.
All I want is to write my stories, read other folks' stories, make art and music, and keep this instance running happily.

We are currently working on various solutions with admins of other servers concerning the harasser. We're investigating possible solutions to find a faster way to stop this so y'all don't have to see it. I'm grateful for the admins of these other servers who are working with us.

P.S. We are continuing to work with admins and mods of other servers to stay on top of bad actors preying on people on Mastadon
Please keep using the reporting tools and send any helpful information about how and why users are violating our server rules
If you submit a report with no information and violations are not evident or available info is not in violation of server rules, we may have to resolve without action

I’ve seen a few folks suggest moving servers may help them evade harassment — unfortunately this is unlikely, and perhaps will make the issue worse
Other servers not screening new accounts carefully or quickly shutting down harassment accounts on their servers *is* the primary method bad actors use to attack members on our server (and other servers)
Decentralization makes harassment tougher to manage, but we’re on top of it! Ty

1. We can block the IP address of him to stop him from signing up here, but we cannot stop him from chosing any server and signing up there. Mods in other servers need to do that.
2. We have a script running to suspend ASAP. This relies on assistance from other servers to update the shared spreadsheet.
Mastodon's coding doesn't have reliable antispam measures that fit this sceneraio. Other servers don't have better spam measures.

We are aware of the individual who is creating multiple accounts across the fediverse to evade blocks/bans from various servers.
Please keep blocking the accounts from your personal accounts AND reporting the fraudulent accounts while we work to figure out a solution from our end in coordination with other servers.

In the past week, I have suspended "Jimmy" the harasser at least a dozen times. This person continues to spin up new accounts to avoid blocks and suspensions. He harasses primarily LGBT and/or Black and Indigenous people.
This whack-a-mole game is annoying. "Jimmy" seems to target those engaging in mutual aid the most, so if you see him again, report it and we'll whack him yet again.
