#WritersCoffeeClub March 26th: In your opinion, name a book, movie, or TV show where the ending spoils the story.
Timing and knowing the conclusion from the beginning are the keys to a good ending. With that said I’ve found I’m disappointed by most television endings and satisfied enough by most books and movies.
Television in particular seems systemically predisposed to ruin endings, it cannot end on a high note. Either they get cut down before they hit their stride or they can’t end it until they’ve stagnated long enough the network starts to loose money. I guess most recently I’ve been disappointed by #Disenchantment (though I might be coming around). #DirkGently was also a huge disappointment given how well it began.
Honourable mention: #TheOA was cancelled prematurely and perhaps managed the best ending of any story I’ve ever consumed. Metamodern ending with enough clues left to decode the ending through #fanfiction? Yes please. It’s like they knew it would be cancelled.
