Es ist ja lieb und nett, wenn ihr mir zwei Tage vor Abfahrt meiner Reise in die #Ferien in den Süden von Italien eine Fahrplanzusammenstellung schickt ...

Blöd nur, wenn die nicht stimmt, weil dann ausnahmsweise der Zug von #Domodossola nach #Milano wegen Bauarbeiten ausfällt, ich das erst in Domodossola erfahre und ich dann gezwungen bin, ein (sehr teures) Taxi nach Milano zu nehmen, um den #Nachtzug rechtzeitig (und sehr knapp) erwischen.

Da ist die CO2-Bilanz und das Budget gerade futsch.

Gibt es dafür eigentlich eine Entschädigung?

Oder liegt die Schuld bei #Trenitalia?

A ride over the #Vigezzina 🇮🇹 narrow gauge line earlier this week. I travelled on the afternoon regional for #Domodossola, a service, on the Italian section of the line, worked by a 1950s #SSIF ABe8/8 unit. It’s got opening windows, very much to the photographer’s delight.

On the #Domodossola 🇮🇹 to #Locarno🇨🇭#Vigezzina #Centovalli narrow gauge line today. I’m travelling on a #VigezzoVision #Panoramico train, in a first row seat, right next to the engine driver. This comes with cab-ride views on the line ahead, and on the beautiful scenery. (The seat reservation fee was 4.00 EUR.)

The highest point on the #Centovalli🇨🇭#Vigezzina 🇮🇹 line from #Locarno to #Domodossola: S. Maria Maggiore, where we saw #SSIF unit ABe8/8 #22 #Ticino today. The unit, built in the 1950s, was working train #R262, the afternoon regional from #Re. And there’s a nice train station café.

Eine knappe Woche lang gab es 2004 eine Sonderzugfahrt in das Bahnland-Schweiz: Höhepunkt war eine Fahrt mit dem #Krokodil über den #Gotthard. Außer der Fahrt mit dem Krokodil über den Gotthard gibt es noch weitere Sonderzug-Highlights: Mit der #Zahnradbahn auf den #MonteGeneroso, mit dem #Dampfzug von #Mendrisio kurz vor Valmorea, in Melide zum "Swiss Miniatur Park", modern und nostalgisch auf der #Centovallibahn von #Locarno nach #Domodossola, mit der #Standseilbahn auf den #SanSalvatore und ein Ausflug auf dem Reststück der #Misoxerbahn zwischen Castione-Arbedo und Cama.

Today is my first official day of professional #retirement ,at the age of 67: arrival by #train in #Domodossola, in the #Italian #Alps , to start tomorrow morning a new #bikepacking adventure of over 1000 km on my #Brompton folding #bike (C-Line 6 gears). I'll keep you posted.

On board a brand new narrow-gauge #Stadler unit on the #Vigezzina line today. This is the 16:51 #Locarno 🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹 “Diretto” service. The speed metre on display might require some additional calibration though: the train moves at a leisurely pace, a far cry from the advertised 150 kph 😉.

S. Maria Maggiore 🇮🇹 on the #Vigezzina narrow gauge line at lunchtime today: pictured is the 10:51 #Locarno to #Domodossola service, stopping here right before noon and worked by a #Centovalli Express unit. The other bonus for the railfan: the plinthed tramcar, opposite the station building.
