Undeniably autumn. 🍂

After seeing the exhibitions in #Stirling at the Tolbooth, the Barracks and the MacRobert I'd say this year's #StirlingPhotographyFestival has been a triumph of what volunteer effort can achieve.

Still further exhibitions to see, at the Library in #Doune and then group shows opening in #Dunblane at the Library and WeighAhead, and a full event programme.

Castle, famous as the main filming location of The Holy Grail, not only has an audio guide narrated by Terry Jones, it also offers cyclists a 25 % discount on the entry fee under a scheme called "Good Journey". Definitely worth visiting not just for fans of Monty Python.

November 1st was a date of significant amenity losses in central Scotland.
#OTD in 1955, #Alva lost its railway station; the nearest station is now 4km away at #Alloa (itself with no rail links for 40 years from 1968).
In 1965 #Callander lost its station, leaving the nearest as Dunblane, all of 17km away, and #Doune lost its station, leaving the nearest as again Dunblane, 6km away.

The image is a vintage photograph depicting Doune Castle, located in Scotland. The castle appears as an imposing structure with multiple towers and turrets, indicative of its historical significance. It's situated on a hill overlooking a serene river, which reflects the castle and provides a picturesque view. Surrounding the castle are lush trees and greenery, suggesting that the photograph was taken during a time when the landscape was well preserved or not as developed as it might be today. The image has an aged quality to it, with visible wear on the paper and a faded appearance, which further reinforces its historical context.

Doune Castle from the bridge, Scotland between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of landscape and architecture in Scotland Scotland Doune

#DouneCastle #Scotland #Doune #theRiverEarn #theScottishLowlands #photography #historicalPhotos

loc.gov/pictures/item/20017059

The image depicts a serene landscape scene from Scotland. It captures Doune Castle, which is situated on the banks of the River Earn in the Scottish Lowlands. The perspective of the photo suggests it was taken from a bridge, providing a view of the castle and river that stretches into the distance.

The castle itself appears to be constructed of stone, with multiple turrets and battlements typical of such medieval structures. Its position on the bank of the river indicates its strategic importance in terms of defense, given the natural barrier it provides against potential invaders.

The River Earn is calm, reflecting the surrounding trees and foliage, which are lush and green, suggesting this photo was likely taken during a time when the weather was mild or warm. The waterway adds a sense of tranquility to the scene, enhancing the overall impression of serene beauty that one might associate with rural Scotland.

The coloration of the image is in sepia tones, which gives it an antique feel and may indicate it's a historical or vintage photograph. The lack of modern elements or signs of contemporary life further supports this notion. Despite its age, the image still conveys the timeless allure of Scotland's castles and landscapes.

Stadt Land Kunst - Monty Pythons Schottland / Portugal / Paris - Die ganze Doku | ARTE

https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/109358-070-A/stadt-land-kunst/

Haus am See. - House by the lake. #Schottland #Scotland #LochLomond #Doune #bothy

There are two houses on a hill by a lake, one of which is dilapidated, the other smaller white one has a red roof. A wet path leads up to the houses, the mountains in the background are almost covered in rain mist.

They even made it to our local news on TV:

Scottish beavers "nick" webcam

If they were fed up with surveillance? Beavers at a wildlife centre in Doune nicked a webcam and used it for their lair.
(The webcam has been recovered and re-installed, but the wooden pole might need to be replaced with a metal one.)
