Any #Dropbox users have experience with using symbolic links or something similar since Dropbox changed how they handle symlinks a few years ago? I have a markdown file in my MarkdownNotebooks folder that I would also like to have in my #pico8 folder for cross referencing things more easily, and I’d love if that symlink was synced with Dropbox across machines, or available within Dropbox iOS for quick referencing. Maybe a .lnk or .url file? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#dropbox is the only proprietary #software I still use. I would like to make the move to one of the open source alternatives. I only need file sharing and storage, and, ideally, a calendar. Could someone here share their experiences with such platforms? I've been looking at #OwnCloud and #NextCloud, but it's not entirely clear what their differences are.

#Syncthing is awesome. For personal use, it's a great alternative to cloud-hosted storage like #Dropbox; entirely free and libre, works over local wifi if possible, and no hard dependencies on a third party (you do need a discovery server, but the public one is fine, and it never sees your data; you can also host your own).
I wish it were more user-friendly so that I could recommend it to my non-techie family and friends as well. And I wish there was an official Android app.

I haven't done a full-system backup since back in the olden days before #Dropbox and #Git. Every machine I now own is treated as a stateless, disposable unit that can be stolen, lost, or corrupted without consequences. The combination of full-disk encryption and distributed copies of all important data means there's just no stress if any...
The most hilarious thing is that after submitting the issue, they offered me coupon for the their support for "free". Its a great example of how things ultimately go in capitalism. They need more and more money and users, they create illusion of progress by making irrelevant changes, upgrades, bundles... Basically create problems, while users test, debug and pay. #rant In past year I started slowly transitioning from bigcorps services to selfhosted #foss solutions. I kept parts of the services like #dropbox for convenience... Its unbelievably how crappy and unreliable they all are. Upgrades make things slow, change stuff unecessary with each one. But shit doesn't even sync at the end.

macOS Malware Deploys in Fake Job Scams
A sophisticated malware campaign targeting macOS users has been discovered, involving fake job assessments and social engineering tactics. The FlexibleFerret malware, attributed to DPRK-aligned operators, uses multi-stage attacks to deploy on victims' systems. The campaign begins with JavaScript files on fake recruitment websites, prompting users to execute commands that download and run malicious shell scripts. These scripts then fetch and execute a Golang backdoor, which establishes persistence and communicates with a command and control server. The malware can collect system information, upload and download files, execute commands, and steal Chrome data. The attackers use Dropbox as an exfiltration channel for captured credentials.

Love living #linux life, with #kubuntu my new daily driver (previously #linuxmint for years), Mint doesn't have a KDE variant, so kububtu it is for now.
Just wish #dropbox had "online only" folders like the Windows and Mac clients.
I have to either use selective sync and not see half the folder structure, or lose disksplace syncing the whole lot ...
