"Ghost gears"
Abandoned and lost fishing gears drifting on their own, entangled in rocks beached on the sea shores. Weapons in which thousands of creatures get trapped and die in an endless deadly cycle. And playing a major part in the plastic pollution in the oceans.

@xanna wonderful visit - though I was hoping for more Buddhist artifacts and sutras - many beautiful things to gaze on. Really enjoying the garden here - a little walled section is very peaceful #DublinCastle #ChesterBeatty #Dublin #Mastodaoine

On 16th January 1922 Michael Collins took control of Dublin Castle from the British authorities on behalf of the new Irish Free State. Looking through the ironwork at Dubh Linn Garden behind Dublin Castle.

I was out early in the morning and the gardens were empty (as were the castle grounds.) The previous day, the gardens were full of people walking on the grass, which I understand is NOT permitted. I'm glad I went back the next day to explore unimpeded.

Trumpets! This was another New Music Dublin performance in the courtyard of Dublin Castle. At first the trumpeters (and other brass players) were clustered together, but then they started to move around. And for a piece written by Peter Jakober they stationed themselves around the courtyard and let the audience move around and through them.

A man sits on the ground while trumpeters perform. Behind the trumpeters are people standing around and an old building that looks like it might be from the Georgian era.A dark suited trumpeter walks along while playing his instrument. In the background we see music stands, some other trumpeters, and a building that mixes Georgian and neoclassical styles. In the foreground a man and woman play trumpets in front of a music stand. Further back are two people playing trumpets on either side of a tuba player. The foreground male trumpeter has some kind of white cable running from his head to his waist while one of the background trumpeters is wearing headphones. They appear to be playing in a courtyard with a stone floor.Scattered groups of musicians play trumpets and other wind instruments in a stone courtyard surrounded by a Georgian building.

Waiting for their cue.

Horses and drivers taking a break from filming (no idea what) in #DublinCastle last Wednesday

#Dublin #horses #photo #April

Put this in black and white and it would look like an old photo...if you don't spot the guy behind the driver, scrolling through his mobile.

A black horse under a blue blanket stands harnessed to a black coach. Beside the coach is a driver in late 19th century caped driving coat. Behind him stands a man in shirtsleeves, waistcoat and grey tweet trousers. Another harnessed black horse waits to their left. They fit in beautifully in the large cobbled courtyard of Dublin Castle, enclosed with Georgian buildings including a large stone arch topped by a statue of Justice and Bedford Tower, built in stone and red brick.

Details from the Neopolitan Crib in the Royal Chapel in Dublin Castle.

The Nativity scene: Wise Men and shepherds (though no baby Jesus since pre Chrisymas)

The rustic tavern: complete down to the hanging sausages, a snapshot of Naples.

The shepherds oblivious to the angels above.

The man with the image of (surprisingly) Holy Virgin and Infant.

#Christmas #DublinCastle #Crib #Naples #photo

Mary, dressed in white with a cloak is central in this scene. Joseph, at the side, fades into the background, unlike the three wise men, gorgeously dressed, offering their gifts. At the lowest level are the shepherds with their sheep. The stable here is built under a classic Roman arch, and angels trailing draperies fly above.Women look out from balconies at the right and left as if looking for news, with a couple emerging onto the central balcony. Below two men are focused on the meal on the table outside and a woman chases away a young boy.The shepherds look like hardy men, dressed in rough yet warm clothing. The hut beside them seems to be a dairy, with piles of cheeses maturing. They look out at us, oblivious to the angels in the sky behind them.A man walking along appears to have suddenly noticed a Nativity picture on the wall beside him.
