I've been using #duckduckgo email forwarding and it usually works great. But then a few places started blocking duck.com email domain as "invalid" (sure...).

Therefore I've been looking to integrate #fastmail Masked Emails (https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/4406536368911-Masked-Email ) into my workflows. Fastmail lets me use my own domain for masked emails and that's unlikely to be blocked. I can generate masked emails in Bitwarden when signing up for services (great!). But I use #emacs and notmuch for email...

If you are a DuckDuckGo and Firefox/Librewolf user like myself, and want to use DuckDuckGo's new AI-free version in the main bar. Here is how.

1. Go to Settings, click the Search tab, scroll down to Search Shortcuts.
2. Click Add.
3. This part took some experimentation to figure out the correct URL format, but you'll want to fill in the Engine URL line with the following.

https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s

4. Fill in whatever name or alias you see fit then click Add Engine. You can now scroll up to Default Search Engine in your Search settings and select the no AI version as your default.

Here is what mine looks like.

I may be doing something wrong, but...

I frequently delete all cookies, etc. and this means the DDG AI "thing" keeps coming back. AI should never be "opt out". It should be "off" by default and stay off until I ask for it.

I'm looking for a new search engine BTW. Suggestions welcome. 🙂

I also hate the sites that block or 403 me because I use a #VPN & force me to pause the VPN so that they can track me while I use their sites.

If I really NEED to access the site, I'll pause my VPN because I use #DuckDuckGo which blocks most trackers anyway but usually I don't bother doing that & will try to access the info that I'm looking for elsewhere.

Huh. #DuckDuckGo made a poll to survey whether their users want AI, the poll said that people don't, now they removed everything AI for everyone who chose 'no'.

That was more straightforward than expected.

I like #DuckDuckGo. But this simplistic poll about #AI ("yes" v. "no") doesn't help anyone.

My answer is: "yes" for some purposes, "no" for some purposes, and "maybe/testing" for other purposes. By excluding people who don't want to oversimplify, or excluding their real answers, DDG has decided to collect bad data.

To be charitable, DDG might be asking whether using AI should be a choice ("choice yes" v. "choice no"). But if that's what it's asking, it could be a lot clearer. BTW, in that case I'm "choice yes".

Tralasciando il fatto che gli scemotti intendevano probabilmente IA generativa, ma hanno scritto IA in generale... e ok, lo capisco anche per necessità colloquiali, ma porca miseria, scrivetelo almeno in piccolo da qualche parte per essere precisi, anche solo in fondo alla pagina, che chi vuole (io!!!) se lo legge... 💫

@soft the nice thing is you can configure #duckduckGo to hide all the AI things!

At more than 30,000 votes now this morning, we're veery firmly at 94% against AI in their search engines. I don't know what kind of subsection of the population this is reaching, though. I discovered the survey here. Even today, pulling up the search homepage, I don't see anything actually on DDDG about it...
