#DuckOfTheDay

I may have skipped #TwoDuckTuesday yesterday, but I do have a pair of #TuftedDucks for today’s #WednesdayWaterbirds

#DuckOfTheDay #LowCarbonBirding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #AthythaFuligula

Two tufted ducks swimming alongside each other, the female slightly ahead but further from the camera. They look sleek and healthy. The male is ink black with a white side and an elegant swept back tuft, the female browner and more subtle.

I turn my back for five minutes, and does anyone else post a #MondayMallard? They do not. For shame.

Have a #ThursdayTuftie from #WWTSlimbridge - it is, unsurprisingly, the #DuckOfTheDay… is it just me, or does it look a bit stoned?

#TuftedDuck #AythyaFuligula #Duck #Birding

A close up of a handsome drake tufted duck, black with a white patch on its side. Its tuft is hanging down like a pony tail, and its eye looks part-closed and rather “out of it”.

It is #TwoDuckTuesday, so here is a pair of pochard, who “helpfully" took it in turns to dive so I couldn’t get them both in frame and in focus at the same time… feel free to pick either of them as your #DuckOfTheDay, and I hope the sight of them cheers you - especially if you’re in pain right now.
It is not the same duck twice, I promise!

#Pochard #PairOfPochard #AthythaFerina #BirdsSeenIn2025 #Birding #Duckstodon #BirdPhotography

A pochard swimming diagonnaly towards the phtogorapher’s left. It has a pale grey body, black chest, and chestnut head with flecks of white. It looks a little like you might imagine a science fiction version of a duck looking, though not quite as much so as an eider.Another pochard, swimming to the right and slightly away from the photographer. It has a dark behind, pale grey sides and a slightly paler looking head, with a beady amber eye… it could be plotting something and trying to look innocent.

The #WednesdayWaterbird is a #Gadwall, so that makes it the #DuckOfTheDay.

She’s etiher thinking about how pretty she is, or plotting nefarious deeds, and I know which my money is on.

The world is awful, but ducks are brilliant. This is a #TuftedDuck, which is awesome. It is far away, but can come towards you, as can the good times.

It must be the #DuckOfTheDay, and far more interesting than politics #NiDuckNiMaitre

A slightly blurry picture of a tufted duck - black body, white wing, backward quiff - floating on slightly wavy water.

These #WednesdayWaterbirds are, like me, wet, tired, a little blurry, and confused about what day of the week it is. They think it might be #TwoDuckTuesday, but it isn’t.

#DuckOfTheDay #Mallard #Duck #AnasPlatyrhynchos #UrbanBirding #LowCarbonBirding #Birding

Two mallards, a male and a female, lying a few feet apart with their heads under their wings, on the edge of a narrow SUDS pond in the pouring rain. The female is better camouflaged and a little hard to pick out.

Good morning, here is your #MondayMorningMallard as photographed on Friday’s walk

A female mallard swimming on the River Flit. She is brown and flecked, but a little glossy and looks in good health.

Isn’t the #MondayMallard a handsome chap? Did you know that duck a day keeps the blues away?

A glossy mallard drake swimming gracefully along a green lode with reeds behind it. A couple of reed stems in the foreground cross in front of the duck, but apart from that it is less terrible than many of my pictures.

I had a great morning's birding at Welney, with highlights including ducks, avocets, and three kinds of egret. There was also a spoonbill and a white fronted goose, QED:

#Birding #Spoonbill #WhiteFrontedGoose #Mallard #Ducks #DuckOfTheDay

A spoonbill standing in grass, preening its wing with its, um, spoonbill, leaving you in no doubt that it is a spoonbillA white fronted goose floating on water. It is a grey goose but, get this, you'll never guess... the front of its face is white! The photo you probably expect to see on Occasional Pictures of Ducks... two mallards, a male and a female, facing each other on calm water.

@loren
Shoot, you’d better have some ducks, after all today is #TwoDuckTuesday so these are jointly the #DuckOfTheDay
