Разбирая бэклог. Часть 14.2. Mortal Kombat. Краткий казуальный экскурс по серии на базе эмуляторов PSX / PS2. 2002-2008

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002). В предшествующей части мой исторический экскурс по известной серии остановился на достаточно печальной ноте, противоречивом переходе в полное 3D и двух экспериментальных, но, увы, провальных проектах. После перерыва в пять лет, прошедших с выхода последней полноценно номерной части, разработчики окончательно решили оставить концепцию оцифрованных персонажей и FMV-вставок в прошлом, сосредоточившись на ранее заданном векторе. Направлении, которое по прежнему подразумевало не только несколько угловатые модели, но и общий акцент на, до очередной радикальной смены подхода, что последует годами позже, подачу в трёхмерном пространстве. По дороге было решено оставить прошлые хитросплетения сюжета в прошлом, фактически первый раз перезапустив сюжетную канву с участием как былых, так и новых персоналий.

Во время составления списков по платформам для целей последующей эмуляции, некогда охвативших аркадные автоматы, NES, SNES и Sega Genesis, а также, в отдельности, в большей степени точечно и с позиции общего кругозора, Amiga, я мимоходом рассматривал и PSX, но скорее так, постольку-поскольку. Причин тому изначально было две.

Some interesting findings running an up to date OS and software on a chip designed for the Vista era — A lot of games / SW cant run due to the OpenGL 1.1 integrated GPU, including a lot of stuff that would otherwise not be too taxing. Many #DOOM / #Quake ports and emulators don’t, but shout outs to Mark V Quake for running like a champ and #DuckStation providing dedicated SSE2 builds that run incredibly well!

#Duckstation a changé sa licence en une licence proprio. Ok, leur code, leur volonté.
Mais en passant de GPLv3 à licence proprio dont je me fous du nom, ils violent la licence #Qt, qui dit explicitement : Qt ok pour projets open source, à condition que ledit projet soit aussi en #GPLv3.
Et Duckstation utilise Qt... "DuckStation features a fully-featured frontend build using Qt…"

Personally, I think maintainers should choose their license wisely beforehand:

Espechally in the case of #DuckStation this is bad because we ain't talking about the whole #GPLv2-only vs. GPLv3+ drama or #grsecurity #paywalling (which is an asshole move but legal )...

  • Maybe the dev(s) - unlike #Capcom - weren't fully aware of this issue, but even big Companies (i.e. #AVM) got forced into compliance...

Lets just hope a friendly (!!!) reminder makes them realize, apologize and undo the change...

@rooktallon @TheCube I think it's worth a shot at the very least. PCSX2 just had its sound backend ported over from by Stenzek among other fixes, and so audio should be a lot cleaner now. PCSX2 still does not support surround sound, which some games did implement (4.1 in-engine and 5.1 for FMVs if they did), so that could understandably be a hindrance for an audio-only user. We encourage you to give it a try, and if there are any problems, we could use your feedback on our Discord.
