@Wen sorry I missed this post! Been so busy prepping for and contributing to #DunsPlayfest that I have hardly touched mastodon for weeks. Did you make it to any shows? Did your neighbour's show go well?

Well after a bit of exploring, I have submitted a request for a PixelFed.scot account, explaining that it is to share photos from past #DunsPlayfest festivals to help promote the festival and shows that go on from Duns to tour elsewhere. We'll see if that constitutes commercial promotion in their eyes... But if anyone can suggest a more appropriate instance for a small Scottish charity into supporting new dramatic writing, please let me know!

Duns Playfest welcomes early stage career Artists and writers.
Among the 70 plus plays and events last year were ones by Borders Youth Theatre, several excellent student companies down from Edinburgh and one play by Duns Players written & directed by Jamie who is still at High School.
We have more booked this year. If you have a script or idea for us to consider for 2026 do get in touch!
The open mic sessions at Duns Playfest were effectively invented by Gordon Reynolds (photo in previous toot). He turned up one day at the 2023 festival asking if there was an opportunity to play. We'd just had to cancel a performance for that evening, an actor had caught COVID, so we gave him the spot despite not knowing him.
His performance that night blew us away with his sensitive musicality. It was one of the stand out events of the week.
Programme for Duns Playfest is nearly set, but we still have a few opportunities to perform on our cabaret stage or if you would rather we have OPEN MIC sessions during the week. Ready for you to turn up and drop in! Times to be announced soon! We have space for music as well as drama, particularly if it is new writing.
If you want to perform, please get in contact with sara@dunsplayfest.org.uk

Brilliant Borders Pub Theatre are back again at DunsPlayfest on Tuesday 6th May!
Each year this group of six writers produce a series of short plays inspired by a word, or a story, or a concept. Actors are given the scripts a week before and have just one day to rehearse and then perfrom the plays.
Why not buy an evening pass for that night? You are guarenteed at least three theatrical performances for £20/18...
'We (Duns Playfest) believe that theatre matters and new theatre - just-forged and ready, quivering, nerve-wracked, brave, alert, urgent, wrestling with reality, beautiful – matters tremendously.'

'Racism, sexism and homophobia are – let’s be frank - manifestations of stupidity based on ignorance and sometimes fear, and are especially idiotic – nonsensical - in the realm of art. If it is “woke” to say such things, DunsPlayFest is, indeed, terribly “woke”.'
Looking forward to tomorrow for the first reading of two brand new plays that Duns Players hope to perform at Duns Playfest in May. One is a Wilson's tale, the other a local reworking of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milkwood'.

Our brilliant interns this year were a major part of the positive feedback we got such as this from singer-song writer Katie Forbes: "The most fantastic, healing, inspiring and joyful memories made. It was run with such heart and talent, and dedication. DunsPlayFest is the community revolution we need."
