Non mi è per niente chiara la logica dietro questa nuova ennesima merdata, ma mi è evidente che la portata di quello che il gufo di Duolingo sta facendo a me in questo momento è comparabile a quella che il capo di un esercito potrebbe fare ad una nazione confinante non alleata schierando delle truppe sul confine per condurre una “operazione militare speciale”… qualcuno sta testando il terreno per far partire un attacco ai miei danni. 💔

In sostanza, io non ho mai visto pubblicità su Duolingo (se non tipo la prima volta che installai la app nativa Android, ma fu l’unica per un bel periodo)… perché boh, suppongo che l’algoritmo sappia bene che io sono tirchia e stratirchia, quindi non compro niente (anche perché ho la personalizzazione disattivata, figurarsi se gli do il permesso legale di profilarmi), quindi nemmeno clicco le pubblicità, e quindi mandarle a me significa sprecare parte del budget. Eppure… in qualche modo, negli ultimi tempi, stanno iniziando ad uscire, piano piano, lentamente ma certamente…

Qui nel video (in cui ho messo la musichetta sotto perché spero faccia ridere, anche se probabilmente sarà solo cringe) sono tutte le ultime che mi sono uscite, esclusa una manciata di doppioni… 9 pubblicità, di cui 7 di TEMU! Ma stiamo scherziamo o cosa? Io ho seriamente paura che stia finendo la pacchia di pubblicità scampate per grazia divina, senza usare ad-blocker, se ormai è questo ciò che vedo… 🛸

Sono in ordine dalla più recente alla più vecchia, con una sola (1) della sera passata, 3 dell’altra sera (questo venerdì), 5 di domenica 11 maggio, e infine una sola di domenica 27 aprile. Già qui, la cosa non mi piace, perché noto ben 2 pattern: innanzitutto, il fatto che in realtà il gufo ha iniziato a “schierare i soldati” già un mese fa, ma piano piano, senza farmi allarmare troppo, facendomi accorgere solo ora che qualcosa non va; poi, sembra che (per ora…) queste appaiano tutte nel fine settimana, ma vattelappesca che cosa significa. 🦧

Tutto questo è molto strano e, torno all’apertura, difficilmente spiegabile se non come un gombloddo. Cos’è, Duolingo si sta forse avviando per bombardarmi di pubblicità, nonostante io abbia diminuito le opportunità giornaliere per la app di mostrarmele (visto che per fin troppe settimane ho pensato quasi solo ai punti, e quindi a fare sempre tante ripetizioni veloci anziché poche lezioni nuove)? Se proprio devono inviarmele, guardate, spero che siano sul mezzo fatto male o lo strano forte, come quelle ultimissime… tipo l’ultima per dei fantomatici provini con una foto stock, e la penultima che vende del legno incomprensibile ad un prezzo arbitrarissimo. 😩

Last night I reached a 3333 day streak on #duolingo. I think it is time to uninstall the app. It used to be fun. Learning was rewarded by lingots (the in-game currency), the more you practiced the more lingots you got. Then some number of years ago, they replaced lingots with gems and removed the correlation between learning and size of the reward. That’s IMO when Duolingo started to go downhill. Since then, they repeatedly nuked useful learning features in favor of monetizable garbage.

Goodbye KI-only Kram...

Breaks my heart, deleted my Duolingo account. It’s such a predatory app and everyone know about the awful management. Years worth of daily streak gone. Sadly there doesn’t seem to any good free alternatives. Will miss learning basics of random languages.

In which the stupid app showed me enough ads that I couldn't finish the lesson before midnight. I'm also sick so I only did the purple on the bases before noticing the time.

I guess this is really on me.

Well, I just finished the #Greek course on #Duolingo. No fanfare, no congratulations, just straight into the infinite "daily refresh" section.

That means I've finished 8 courses: Esperanto, Spanish, German, Russian, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese, and Greek. And that's it. Time to get off this train before it turns to complete #AI slop.

I just need to find a new lazy resource for learning Welsh, now 🤔

Je suis facilement accro aux jeux vidéos, c'est pour ça que j'ai arrêté il y a 20 ans. Parfois, un truc me rattrape par le bras.

Depuis deux ans c'est Duolingo. J'ai fini le jeu en italien, avec tous les badges, 101 semaines en diamant, top1 du tournois. Et je suis ce soir à 999916 XP.

Donc demain l'opportunité sera unique de décrocher de cette addiction-là.

Et on a appris le remplacement de leur traducteurices par un LLM.

Ce poulet sert à me forcer à supprimer mon compte.

Ankidroid is relentless. Back when I was failing to learn language via duolingo I was always worried missing a day would kill my streak, and so I'd frequently sneak in with 5 minutes left till midnight and do a single shameful lesson to keep the precious streak going. I was more motivated to keep the streak than to learn.

Ankidroid's like "Oh you missed a day? Fuck you, now you have twice as much to review"

"Oh you missed another day? Not too smart are you? Thats 75 cards you owe me now"

I missed a couple days and still haven't caught up, but I make sure to at least do what I can each night and chip away.

Now it's fear that motivates me to keep learning. Fear of falling deeper into anki debt.

Finally deleted #Duolingo from my phone.

It was a tough decision because I didn't want to break my Duolingo streak😆
But recently, I started learning English through immersion to improve my skills, and I'm trying to stop translating between English and Japanese. Duolingo wasn't helping with that.
