There is a decision to make on a lightweight jacket for the FRC. Waterproof or just windproof. This will only be known closer to the time. Rain is not common, but it has been known to surprise hikers. So is wind and the subsequent sand it blows around.

If I just go windproof, I can save weight by taking a Dynafit trail-runner ultralight windblocker. It has worked well on warm sunny days when strong winds threatened to freeze me.

Otherwise I'll settle for my trusty Crazy Shark jacket, which has taken me through many a mountain rain storm.

(Unfortunately the new model of the Shark no longer have front pockets. Luckily I bought an extra one of the previous season, so I have a replacement for future).

I recently upgraded from my Scott touring boots to a pair of Dynafit TLT X boots. After getting them punched to accommodate a small spur on the outside of each foot, I am really happy. 60⁰ motion when climbing and pretty stable when descending.

Except today... when I stepped into skis for descent and promptly fell over backwards. I got up again, pushed off and nearly fell over again. It was a WTF moment, before I realised I never set the boots into ski mode!! 🤦‍♂️

Overall, the best boots I have ever had, touring or alpine. The single action to go from ascent to descent mode is just such a joy.
