@benbrown depends on your workflow.
You can even use a #RaspberryPi with the #HDMI2CSI adapter board.
Don't forget that cracking #HDCP is a legal no-no, but there's no way for anyone to find out...
Okay, how do we override just the broken EDID without flashing?
Not the kernel way as that applies to the whole port and sometimes we switch displays.
And no flashing since we aren't confident yet on flashing the thing (we don't know if it's the HDMI to DVI-D adapter).
We know the monitor as of now sends the same broken edid, so it's possible to identify that exact monitor by EDID.

Amazingly, on the rooted #android phone, #pinxi can now also show complete monitor information, aka the screen, which I was really surprised by. I did not expect phone screens to return #EDID data, but they do, at least in this case.
As is often the case, right when I think everything is going to settle down, I get a good issue, a good dataset, or find a key bit of missing info.
Refactoring to handle the port ID mapping was tricky but not too hard Now the old hack is just a fallback.
I do hate #Hardware.
A while ago I already looked for (but didn't find) a #USB-C #KVM #switch for 4 inputs that allows for 5k graphics. (By now 3 different PC/laptops would be enough to get switched).
It seems one can ONLY find some that are 2-port and/or do max. 4k.
So I had to step down and now have a 4-port #HDMI KVM switch.
Which, kind-of, works. It's *not* exactly the fastest (5 to 8 seconds until things are usable after a switch). And it doesn't have anything that stores #EDID, so when I switch, the other laptops think the display has gone away and reorder all windows. GAH
But oh, there are edid emulators for HDMI out there, so one of them per cable and done, it would seem.
Not so. They all only support 4k displays. WTF? WHY?
I only want either a nice USB-C kvm switch doing 3 or 4 inputs AND supporting 5k displays, or at least HDMI edid emulators supporting 5k displays.
Meh. Come on, companies, I am willing to hand you money, produce something useful for a change, please.

Finally releasing my EDID parser and assembler to the public.
https://codeberg.org/ral/pasedid
These are two simple tools. The first parses the binary blob into a yaml file. You can then adapt this file to your needs and assemble it back into a binary. The binary can then be flashed on suitable hardware.
I could not have done this without Rust and the awesome modern tooling around it!
