• Back-to-back days of extreme heat, coupled with high overnight temperatures, can interfere with your body's natural ability to cool down and can cause heat illness, including #cramps and #heatexhaustion. If left untreated, this can lead to #heatstroke, which is a life-threatening illness.

• Stay cool on hot days: Use an air conditioner or a fan, wear light and loose clothing, or splash or spray cool water onto your skin.

• Keep hydrated: Always take a drink bottle with you.

• Check in with family, friends and neighbours: Let people know you are OK or check in on those at increased risk including people over the age of 65, young children and babies, pregnant women, people with acute or chronic health problems and people who are socially isolated.

• Plan ahead: Cancel or reschedule activities for a cooler time of the day and check the weather forecast regularly.

• Heat can stress pets. Provide cool, clean water and shade for your pets and animals.

• Know the symptoms of heat-related illness and monitor your health.

Plan ahead and keep up to date with weather forecasts. To find out more information visit:

👑 Artist: #ShaunDevenney / #ArtByShaun_Dev in City: #Echuca /234 Pakenham St / Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 2021 - Title: untitled ("The Chessplayer") - #Art #Streetart #Mural #Artist #Chess

Streetartwall. An impressive mural of a chess player has been painted on the brick exterior wall of a café. In a photorealistic painting style, it shows an older man in a checked shirt sitting at a table next to a window with a chess set. There is a drink and a cup on the table, and some pieces have already been placed next to the board. He is pensive and reaches for a game piece. An unusual motif and beautifully designed.
Info: The mural is based on a photograph taken by Alexander Pettiford during the lockdown in Australia.

Echuca, Victoria, on the Murray River (the border of Victoria and New South Wales).
Before the railway, paddle steamers carried passengers and cargo up and down the river.

A murky brown river edged by many gum trees hanging over. There are a handful of s paddle steamers along the bank. The near one has two decks with paddle wheels on either side (or the covering of them). Ladders leaning on these provide access between the desk. The top level has a cabin where the ship is street and a large black funnel. The lower level has a flat area with a large box in the cente and a narrow bench seat at the very front where passengers can sit. At the front is a flag, hanging limp, with a Union Jack, blue & white stripes and a red cross with stars along it.
The paddle steamers are the back are mostly small, but one has large enclosed areas over two levels.

After nearly 3 hours of driving we happened upon the town of Echuca. Unlike Albury, Echuca is a tourist town on the Murray River so was definitely open on New Years Day. We rummaged in a couple of 2nd hand book shops and sat outside and shared a wonderful pizza. Most of the shops in the main street have big verandahs covering the wide footpath so there is plenty of shade for outdoors dining. The temperature was probably around 32 degrees at this stage so perfect for sitting outside in the shade.

Echuca was a significant inland trading port on the Murray River about a century ago. Now people can take rides on old paddle wheel boats, visit the restored Port and take rides in a horse-drawn coach.

The last time we had visited Echuca was in the 1990s before we moved to Queensland. Today it was filled with tourists ambling along the path pondering the most important question one has on a holiday - 'what are we going to eat for lunch?'

We took our time before resuming our trip - we had another couple of hundred kilometres to travel to our destination.

For something a bit different. The penny arcade at Echuca was a bit of fun. Strength tests, guessing machines, games and some odd animations.

Visiting #Echuca, which was hit by the floods a few weeks back. The water has only receded a little and there is danger they will rise again.

Saw this beside the road...

A fridge freezer caught on a wire fence under gum trees.
