Yesterday in a phone repair shop they told me about firmware vs. software, which puzzled me. And now that a) "explains" a lot, why manufacturers are not updating their OS. They treat smartphones like WiFi routers, not laptops, software wise. Even though flash, CPU cores, complexity etc. make them more similar to a laptop. Only apps get regular updates.
