#EdibleGardening

I've waited so long for this plant to grow and bloom. I've been trying to grow her seeds for years with no success until now. I'm so so excited! It grows fine on the side of the road just not in my garden πŸ˜…

A garden sits lush in the background, one large purple Bloom stands out from the rest. She is familiar yet alien. Dusty purple, and dandelion like. Her sepal is longer than her petals, stretching out far in verdant rays. This is a common salsify but there is nothing common about her.

This is an area adjacent to my pond that is full sun, well drained moist soil.

I am actively trying to incorporate more edibles plants in my yard. Here mustard greens and blueberry coexist beautifully with coleus and impatients.

Is Mastodon only for politics? Here is the saga of my beach plum jam, from my front yard to my toast. It came out a little too firm but it’s good. And the bushes are pretty when they bloom.

Growing radishes is good for my gardening confidence:)

A few of our #cucumbers are still growing.
Some large Oregon #snowpeas.
Ongoing soil remediation project is making slow & steady progress. Cardboard, topsoil, compost, woody debris, crushed seashells, seaweed, grass cuttings, leaf mulch are all breaking down together nicely.

Benefits of work from home days, harvesting from my garden on lunch break πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸˆ

My first #galia #cantaloupe #harvest πŸ₯°
It's super juicy, sweet & delicious!

Galia is a type of cantaloupe that's a cross between a cantaloupe & a honeydew. The fruit is light green on the inside, when ripened.

A lovely 1.25-pound (.55-kilo) monstrosity from the garden.

A hand holding up a very large tomato, about the size of a softball. The coloring is reddish-purple with some green at the top (a Cherokee purple tomato). Out of focus in the background is a large amount of foliage covering a fence (purple passionflower vines).

Big or small, our yards are living canvases we can 'paint' with a wide variety of plant textures and colours.

Traditionally, the main medium has been grass, in the form of lawns.

But what if we replaced some (or all) of that lawn space to grow food – not only for us, but for #pollinators and wildlife?

Our #free foods in our front garden is more heavily picked in Summer & Fall. These curly & red Russian #kales have been harvested by many different people visiting our road πŸ₯°. New growth happening so they will continue to provide free foods to anyone who wants to pick them. I'm going to grow more #food plants that public can freely harvest from!
