Working on a Buildroot OS with kernel 6.18 + PREEMPT_RT on an Intel AX210 WiFi (iwlwifi QuZ firmware). With dynamic preempt everything works, but RT causes firmware init errors and the device disappears. Maybe bleeding-edge RT kernels aren’t always the best choice. Curious if others hit similar issues or found workarounds. Open to discussion.

I'm on my way to #FOSDEM2026! Who wants to meet up and chat about #EmbeddedLinux, #OpenEmbedded or #YoctoProject? Especially as I'm now working full time on Yocto Project, it would be good to talk to more of our users and contributors. We do have a BoF session at 11:00 on Saturday, and I'm happy to meet up for coffee or beer at other times this weekend.

The best ways to get hold of me are email and Signal, drop me a reply here if you need my contact details.

Less than two weeks to go until @fosdem 2026 😀

I'm happy to meet up with anyone who wants to talk about @yoctoproject and @openembedded. If you'll be attending FOSDEM and want to chat, drop me a message and we'll figure out a time to meet.

I'll also likely be bouncing between a couple of devrooms. Looking forward to the "Embedded, Mobile and Automotive" and "Community" tracks as usual!

On i.MX8MP, GPIOs are owned by Linux (A53) by default.
If the Cortex-M7 needs them—especially for interrupts—you must release them in the device tree:

• Remove pinmux
• Remove GPIO references
• Disable the GPIO controller if needed

This prevents A53/M7 resource conflicts and ensures real-time reliability.

I've spent time researching something I didn't want to research: How do you meld Yocto with Debian. The answer is you don't: There have been attempts to do this but they incomplete/unmaintained.

There is an embedded debian build framework called ELBE, but it doesn't have any connection to Yocto. Meaning that u-boot, the kernel and the device tree would have to be manually rebuilt and packaged. github.com/Linutronix/elbe

I didn't know that a PocketBeagle 2 was available: The second version of the mini version of the BeagleBone. You won't be doing anything too crazy with it because it has only half a gig of RAM, and the only storage is a microSD slot (unless you're brave enough to populate the eMMC chip yourself). No WiFi either, but at least it's only $30.

Two different companies make SMARC System on Modules using the MediaTek Genio 700. Yay competition and standards! The power consumption in sleep is 106 mW for the Ezurio board and 265 mW for the SECO. More than double! And there's nothing dramatically different about their capabilities.

I thought the SECO was available in single quantities. The Ezurio is, from Mouser.

🚀 Rock-solid Real-Time performance on Raspberry Pi 4!

Just stress-tested via SSH a custom (Kernel 6.12.61-v8 ). Even with a massive memory hog running (stress-ng --vm 2 --vm-bytes 1G), the results are insane:

🔹 Avg Latency: 14µs
🔹 Max Latency: 42µs
🔹 Jitter: Virtually zero

This is now a deterministic beast. 🐧🛠️ 64-bit RT Linux at its best!

Just built a custom x86 Real-Time OS with ! 🚀

Boasts a blazing-fast 2-second boot on QEMU, now ready for bare metal. This is super lean on RAM & CPU, perfect for embedded & low-latency apps.

Thrilled with the kernel (6.12.57-rt14)! Check out the screenshots for proof.

What a journey!

My journey to a kernel for on Buildroot continues!

Many failed experiments with different kernel/RT patch combos (6.18, 6.12, 6.1), but learning a ton about patching & Buildroot quirks. Still stuck on enabling CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT, but feeling closer to the breakthrough!

My portable is ready for more. 🤓
