Is My Morning #Coffee #Climate Friendly?
Coffee isn’t a huge climate polluter, but it does produce #greenhousegas. Kg of roasted coffee can produce 40kg or more of #CO2.
Look for coffee certifications, such as those offered by #RainforestAlliance & #FairTrade. While most common certifications don’t focus on #carbon #emissions, they often promote environmentally responsible practices, such as reducing deforestation, which can help cut greenhouse gas

Europe reported the highest annual wildfire carbon on record in 2025, due to significant wildfire activity across the Northern Hemisphere, the @CopernicusECMWF Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) has said. 🔥

2025 sees intense wildfire year in the Northern Hemisphere

In 2025, the #Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (#CAMS) continued to track #wildfire #emissions worldwide, offering detailed insights into fire intensity, associated emissions and atmospheric impacts. Several parts of the world saw significant wildfire activity, with record high emissions in #Europe, and #Canada recording its second-highest annual total of #carbon emissions from wildfires since the start of the CAMS fire emissions dataset in 2003. CAMS estimates that global wildfires and #biomass burning released approximately 1380 megatonnes of carbon by the end of November 2025 (compared with 1850 and 1940 megatonnes of carbon in the January-November and annual respective totals of 2024), with Canada contributing 263 megatonnes of that total.

Top Journal Retracts Study Predicting Catastrophic #Climate Toll
Evidence shows #carbon #emissions are harming #economy, journal Nature found that an outlier paper had deep flaws.
Instead of a 62% decline in economic output by 2100 in a world where #carbonemissions continue unabated, global output would be reduced by 23%.
Erasing more than 20% of the world's economic activity would still be a devastating blow to human welfare.nytimes.com/2025/12/03/busines

So this has officially happened

#Trump on Wednesday threw the weight of the federal government behind cars that burn #gasoline rather than #ElectricVehicles, gutting one of the country’s most significant efforts to address #ClimateChange & thrusting the #AutomobileIndustry into greater uncertainty.

Transportation is the single largest source of #GreenhouseGas #emissions in the #US.

Under a rule finalized in June 2024, the #Biden admin required automakers to achieve an average fuel efficiency of about 50 miles per gallon for new vehicles by model year 2031. To comply, federal ofcls expected that manufacturers would increase the sales of #ElectricVehicles, which use no #gasoline & would help boost the avg fuel efficiency across their product lines.

#Congress established the Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or #CAFE, standards in 1975 as a way to curb dependence on foreign #oil. Since then, efficiency rules have been regularly tightened, compelling automakers to improve the fuel efficiency. The standards have also helped to introduce innovations like #hybrid & #ElectricVehicles.

The rules have significantly reduced the #GreenhouseGas #emissions that spew from automobile tailpipes & are dangerously warming the planet.

Emissions from global wildfires far higher than previously thought

The total #emissions of #GreenhouseGas'es and airborne #particles caused by #wildfires are almost 70% higher than previously assumed. Researchers at Wageningen University & Research discovered this in a long-term study conducted in collaboration with #NASA, BeZero #Carbon, and American universities in Maryland and Irvine, California.

European Geosciences Union: Assessing the Detection of Methane Plumes in Offshore Areas Using High-Resolution Imaging Spectrometers (21 Oct 2025) - amt.copernicus.org/articles/18

This is a brilliant article using data from space-based spectrometers #EnMAP and #EMIT to detect and quantify #methane plumes offshore.

The oceans' low reflectivity makes detection harder, but using data when solar light is reflected to the sensor works as well as land.
