#EngineeringLeadership

A Software Development Life Cycle exists in nearly every software effort, whether engineers recognize it or not. Even teams that reject “formal” SDLCs still perform the same activities, deliberately or otherwise.

(More ruminations, not specific, sparked by my recently published book: tinyurl.com/HOSEWP2)

A key idea in my book is that while change in software engineering is constant, engaging with it should be purposeful --- and may even be optional. That feels especially true with LLMs and code generation, where discussion tends to polarize quickly into advocacy or rejection.

Hi, I'm Sparrow. I run KstrlWorks where we build high-performance, privacy-first tools for Linux users.

Built systems for F-35s and high-frequency trading desks. Now an executive that companies with deep pockets parachute into their disasters to fix operations and actually grow them.

Currently shipping:
HardPass - GPU passthrough and #VFIO that actually works. For #LinuxGaming and power users.

I write about:
- Real #EngineeringLeadership. The kind that prevents incidents, not LinkedIn motivational posters.
- Running efficient, security-first teams that don't implode
- #Virtualization, systems architecture, and #Bootstrapping
- Building infrastructure so solid you never need to hire a fixer like me

High-performance, privacy-first tools built with the same standards I use for critical systems. Linux users deserve that.

Let's build things that work. 🐧

Unspent training budget rarely rolls over. It usually disappears.

We’ve extended the QCon London early bird deadline to December 20.

Secure your team’s seats now. Turn this year's "use it or lose it" budget into next year's architectural roadmap.

Learned helplessness can quietly take over software teams: no initiative, growing tech debt, etc. I wrote about the symptoms, how it's taught (often unintentionally), and how to break the cycle.

If #EngineeringLeadership doesn’t believe neurospicy folks can strengthen a team, they’re simply wrong. Maybe they’ll learn.

But if a supposed #ExtremeProgramming expert doesn’t grok this, such remarkably deep failure of understanding indicates ignorance AND profound obstinacy.
