I have been having fun designing a 36-key #ErgonomicKeyboard PCB using open source tools like #Ergogen & #KiCad and a good dose of mathematics (graph theory) https://github.com/unspecworks/gamma-omega/pull/6

Both sides of a PCB for a 36 key ergonomic keyboard, with two 20-pin headers in the middle for a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller. Blue with wiring traces in pale blue, and a partial Tutte-Coxeter graph drawn in the empty space between the two halves of the keyboard.

Building on T.G. Marbach's #GraphTheory idea to use the Heawood graph for a split keyboard #MechanicalKeyboard (see https://astrobeano.blogspot.com/2025/05/topology-meets-custom-keyboard-circuit.html), I've applied the larger Tutte-Coxeter (Tutte 8 Cage) to sketch diode-free 34, 36, 40, & 42 key #ErgonomicKeyboard PCB layouts.

I find the tenting feature on some split keyboards is pretty vital to prevent immediate wrist pain for me

Cheapest options that aren’t cool like the expensive/flashy or diy ones, so no hand-soldering (those can still cost hundreds of dollars):

The Goldtouch semi- #SplitKeyboard has more stable tenting than 90% of split keyboards, and cost less than $100 used

Or the Targus Foldable #ErgonomicKeyboard on an eyeglasses case will let you test the split ergo water for $30

Old Goldtouch portable semi-split keyboard. Joined by a ball-joint at the peak near the 6-7 keys. The locking joint allows it to be moved and tented at any position and angle up to 30° as long as the boards don’t get too far apart.

Targus foldable ergonomic keyboard. Extremely thin board opens like a book and here is opened over a glasses case so it forms a tent with each half of the keyboard on either side.

I’m belatedly getting into this geeky stickers on laptops thing - there are some on the outside too, but here’s my attempt at an #ErgonomicKeyboard #KeyboardLayout on my Japanese #MacBook 🇯🇵 ⌨️

If it wasn’t obvious from recent posts, I have fallen into the world of #ErgonomicKeyboard / #MechanicalKeyboard / #KeyboardLayouts ⌨

My #CorneKeyboard arrived from Ali Express this week, I've already tried one new layout, and just today I filed my first issue and pull request on a public repository related to this new “hobby”: https://github.com/aradzie/keybr.com/issues/400

That's for the https://www.keybr.com/ touch-typing platform, and a very recent layout called #HandsDownPromethium which has the letter R and space on thumb keys.

Right now I am seriously tempted to spend ~£200 (~¥40,000) on a 32-key #FishKeyboard https://o24.works/fish/ having been reading the designer's blogs about their #OnishiLayout - probably a good thing it is currently sold out! 🤣 🐠⌨ #ErgonomicKeyboard

It only just occurred to me, but there’s a reason its the E key which is starting to fail on my #Microsoft4000 #ErgonomicKeyboard - its the most used letter in the English language (and I'm not a vi/vim user so no HJKL effect - my cursor keys get pounded instead, and thankfully are holding up fine).

I guess switching to Dvorak would be one “solution" (becomes `.>`) , or Colemak (becomes F).

#Keyboard fans on #macOS - is there an easy way to record keystroke usage counts? e.g. Like an extended version of this software which currently only does a grand total of all keys: https://github.com/MarcusDelvecchio/KeyCount/issues/3

Naya Create split ergonomic keyboard in front of video editing screens. It is a non-traditional computer keyboard split into two halfs for right and left hands. Each side has a place by the thumb to put a trackball or trackpad, or 3D space mouse joystick.

I made another split ergonomic keyboard. This one is kipra v2 with some nice improvements over its predecessor.

New #ergonomickeyboard and #ergonomicmouse since the old set was starting to get a bit touchy. Decided to try out a new set. Lenovo something or other. It has cork!

So far so good. Hoping it lasts a long while. Mice tend to give up on me fast.
