Hundreds of Aglais io caterpillars at three different stages. While most have begun to separate from their respective piles, some younger ones were just joining it (and I have to admit that I stopped counting after 24).

Aglais io feeding on ox-eye daisy near my local church.
As expected, I was forced to cancel my field trip just a few hours ago. Not only is the weather even poorer than during last year's cancelled trip, my condition worsened yesterday and I experienced two colics since then. This is not what I had in mind for my birthday, so instead I decided to post some of my all-time favorite shots from my collection throughout the day to remind myself of the huge progress I've made in terms of my photography skills and my knowledge regarding nature. The latter wouldn't have been possible without my friend from Austria, who I won't tag to protect his privacy – if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have rediscovered my interest in biology and my overall appreciation for nature. Thank you, M! ♡
