Folks may appreciate this Southern Purple Mint Moth. This is a new species for me and what a stunning one. #nature #insects #moth #wildlifephotography #eveningwalk #photo

23/05/2025 - Evening walk after work. Start of the weekend. It's always nice to look for the little things on the way round. Young gooseberries starting to grow next to a lamp post on rough ground next to a busy road. There's nice things to see everywhere when I take life slow. Have a nice weekend everyone 😃

watching the world go by.. 🚜🚵🚗

A large German shepherd type dog with wolf masked fur lies on a mossy rock, overlooking a country road. The dog wears a red and black harness topped with a red bell and gift ribbon for visibility. Her mouth is open in a big grin, eyes half closed. Green leaves erupt from the beech tree behind her, lit up by the sunshine.

Really nice walk after the rain.. the leaves are still fresh and new, softly glowing.

I know the English word for " earthy smell after rain" is , from Ancient Greek.

But what about the "vibrant colours, soft lighting, extra-loud birdsong"?

Maybe another language has one for this phenomenon? (Looking at you, German!)

View from a high point, looking out over rolling grass meadows and wooded hills. Tall shadowed pine trees frame the view on left and right, sun peeping through the branches. The sky is powder blue with softly lit ragged clouds. The whole landscape is glowing with the soft evening light.

Silhouette of a bare-branched tree against a golden sunset sky. A country road runs alongside lush green grass with farmland stretching to the horizon, creating a serene rural landscape at dusk.

12/05/2025 - Resident Weevil

Evening walk to the coffee shop. The weather was nice again today so we sat outside with our brews. A brown leaf weevil took up residence on my trouser leg. The busy bug is tiny, about 5mm. It seemed happy enough there for a while.

10/05/2025 - Trig to trig walk on Bennachie this evening. We hadn't planned to visit both trigpoints but the weather was good and with the twilight sky starting to darken I felt a need to see some stars. A good walk, quiet on the hill. The big moon kept us company all night. Got home about 3am.

#EveningWalk #Trigpoint

Photo of Bennachie trigpoint on Mither Tap. Low evening sunshine and a fine view of Aberdeenshire down below from one of the tops of Bennachie. The trig is a bit unusual as it's an untapered block shaped pillar without a flush bracket.Saying goodnight to the sun as it sets behind a distance hill. The sky is a nice orange colour. Two hours after Bennachie trigpoint we reached Black Hill trigpoint. This one is the usual tapered trig shape. The big moon is behind. Dark now as we had entered astronomical twilight. We sat and had a brew and a few snacks then it was time to make the slow 3hr walk back, stopping a lot to see the stars.

09/05/2025 - After a trip to the shop to buy new shoes (I hate shoe shopping), we headed for the hills to enjoy the sunshine. A sunny walk round and up Tap o' Noth in Aberdeenshire. The weather was so nice I had my summer hat on. The wild flowers were magic and good birds today. Saw our first cuckoo this year. Top bees and butterflies. Spot of the day was probably a green hairstreak butterfly. We had tea on top and the sun set before we got down. Great day/evening out.

#EveningWalk

One of us walking up a track heading up the hill. Summer hat on and arms outstretched, enjoying the warmth of the sun. Yellow gorse and broom everywhere. I love this part of the walk as the wild flowers here are ace.View from the top of Tap o' Noth. Evening time now. The walls of the hillfort to the sunlit fields and beyond to the bigger hills.

07/05/2025 - Things we saw on our evening walk after work. Round and over the hill. A lovely small copper butterfly and the wonderful footballer hoverfly

#EveningWalk #Hoverflies #Butterflies #Insects

Photo of a small copper butterfly on a dandelion. It's a small mainly orange butterfly. We don't see that many round here. Made my day.The footballer hoverfly on a rock. It's called that because of the black and yellow stripes on the thorax, bit like a football top.

06/05/2025 - Evening walk after work. The clock struck 5 and it was time for wild flowers. It's such an exciting time of year. I love all the little flowers hiding away in the grass by the side of the roads. I really should have my tea first before going out, I was late getting home again and the belly was rumbling.

A few snaps of some of the little things I saw today. I think the IDs are good.

Charlock
Common Field-speedwell
Smith's Pepperwort
Germander Speedwell

Yellow flower of Charlock. Not seen these round here before. Edge of a field. I thought it was oilseed rape until I got up close.Common Field-speedwell. Easy to miss these tiny blue speedwell flowers hiding in the grass.Smith's Pepperwort. Straight up with a cluster of tiny white flowers on top. There's a good patch of these this year by the roadside.Germander Speedwell. Everywhere. Every time I stopped today these little blue flowers were there. I do like them.

05/05/2025 Flowers and bees on our evening walk after work today along the quiet roads.

Silverweed - The first few flowers are starting to show.
Broom - In amongst a bank of broom, this one stood out. I'm thinking an escaped cultivated one (Firefly?)

A couple of lovely bees on lime tree leaves, Marsham’s nomad bee and Early mining bee I think. I must have spent a good half hour just watching them doing busy bee stuff. Pretty magic.

#EveningWalk #WildFlowers #Bees

A single yellow flower of Silverweed. They like the roadsides round here. Just a quick snap as the road was busy.Marsham’s nomad bee on a lime tree leaf. Looks a bit more wasp than bee.Broom but the flowers were red and yellow instead of the usual just yellow. I'm thinking an escaped cultivated one (Firefly?)Early mining bee on a lime tree leaf. Lots of these about today.

28/04/2025 - Evening walk round and over the hill. We took tea with us and sat by the quiet road for a couple of hours, just relaxing. A nice way to start the week. We've done this walk hundreds of times but there's always something new to see. Today's lovely surprise was finding one of my favourite flowers, Bitter-vetch. First time I've found these on a walk from the house. Twilight on the way back. A badger ran across the track just in front of us, a magic moment.

#EveningWalk #WildFlowers

Pink/purple flowers of bitter-vetch. Nearly lost in the tall grass by the roadside.

23/04/2025 - Evening walk after work. We stopped for a coffee, sat outside and let the day slip away into evening. I'm not feeling that happy at the moment. Everything seems busy in my head. It will pass, just got to take things slow.

#EveningWalk

Black and white photo of a chair leg through the metal grill of a chair seat. I probably should have taken the nice white clouds in the sky instead or something. Maybe a cloud photo day tomorrow.
