02/03/2026 - Moon shadows

Evening walk into the night. The moon was so big and shiny we didn't need our head torches on the back road. Photo is our shadows on the road from the moonlight behind us. Long exposure so a bit brighter than it actually was.

Zur Abendrunde sah ich diese Gräsergruppe. Wirken so zart und gebrechlich. Doch sie sind stark. Strecken sind zum Himmel , beugen sich dem Wind und richten sich immer wieder auf. Habt einen schönen Abend.

During my evening walk , I saw this group of grasses. They look so delicate and fragile. But they are strong. They stretch towards the sky , bend in the wind and always stand up again. Have a lovely evening.

Auf einem kleinem Hang steht eine Gräsergruppe. Grazil und zart wirken sie. Der Himmel im Hintergrund ist wolkenlos in mehreren Blautönen. Hoch aufgerichtet sind die Halme. Das Foto vermittelt Ruhe und Frieden.

Es geht leicht bergauf. Man sieht einen Weg. Er wird links von einem Hang gesäumt. Am Ende des Weges steht ein einzelner Baum. Die untergehende Sonne strahlt den Baum und den oberen Hang an und taucht sie in ein goldenes Licht. Der Himmel ist wolkenlos in schönen Blautönen.

27/02/2026 - Evening walk up and round the hill. Cold on the hill tonight. Two magic birds heard, both unmistakeable. First the wonderful otherworldly drumming of a snipe in the dark. I love this sound. Second a tawny owl courtship which I've never heard before. We stood in the freezing dark for 45 mins listening as they moved closer and closer to each other. Owl sound clip with "xylophone trill' near the end. Female is the shorter call and the male is the classic hoot 😃

26/02/2026 - Evening visit to Bennachie. I've just been walking from the house so far this year. It was good to visit a hill a bit farther away tonight. Quiet on the hill and mild for February. The wind was a bit naggy. Good stars and a shiny Moon.

25/02/2026 - Evening walk after work on the back roads. Twilight for most of the way, dark by the end. Nice to see lots of bats flying about again. I've missed them. They look to be from a different place. Such strange little things.

As the bats were moving too fast in the fading light for a photo, here's a snap of a pheasant sitting high up in the trees we were walking under.

24/02/2026 - A lovely tree from my evening walk today for #ThickTrunkTuesday

I think it's an old white poplar. I'm not very good with id without leaves! Just trunks are tricky. This tree has such wonderful fissures.

Twilight now on the back road. There's a sign painted on the road saying SLOW. Trees either side. We stopped to listen to birds saying goodnight to each other in the fading light. Mainly blackbirds but pheasant and tawny owl too.

20/02/2026 - Friday evening walk up and round the hill. It felt like the first proper evening walk of the year. No worrying about the rain. Just walking, talking rubbish to each other and looking at the stars. No rush for nothing. A nice way to start the weekend. We saw the Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Jupiter. Also picked up grey partridge calling in the dark. That's 50 birds on the Merlin app on walks from the house this year now.

19/02/2026 - Evening walk. Just me as Mrs Spaceways was working late. I didn't stay out long as it looked like the rain was coming. I felt a bit rushed, I hate rushing.

17/02/2026 - We stopped for a coffee on our evening walk. It was freezing but we still sat outside. The stars that I could see were nice. We both needed the walk tonight.

12/02/2026 - The clouds have finally run out of rain.

Evening walk after work. The rain has finally stopped. Two hours on the quiet roads with no hood up or constantly checking the rain radar. It was just lovely and so nice to see some stars. I'm a happy Spaceways tonight.

Evening walk after tea. It was dry for a bit and then it wasn't. The shelter at the bus stop came to our rescue again. I quite like waiting here for the rain to stop. It's peaceful.
