Am I really the first to mention #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo?
Drama Recs Challenge
Day 4: A Powerful Performance
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - Park Eun Bin turns in an extraordinary performance playing autistic lawyer Woo. A very enjoyable and heart warming drama.
I wonder when they'll start filming the Season 02 of #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo #이상한변호사우영우 (lit. Weird Lawyer U Yeong U).
She may not be an #autistic but she graduated in psychology and thus was careful in her portrayal. She superbly did well with her acting. So, I want to see her in the role again.

K-Entertainment mourns the loss of veteran actress Kang Myung Joo, who passed away at the age of 79. Her legacy in the industry will forever be remembered.

for an almost complete topic shift, HOLY FUCK I LOVE #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo!!! I've only seen two episodes so far, but I love #autistic Woo Young-woo so much and Park Eun-bin is a delight to watch
there's definitely things that aren't great, like Attorney Woo saying there's nothing more pitiable than having a disability, but I can also believe that's just a thing other people have said to her that she's just accepted (or possibly that she's saying it cynically bc she knows that's what people around her believe). and there's also things like the second episode involves a #queer character, which feels really brave, considering South Korea's stance on #LGBTQ issues
I also really enjoy some of the ways they portray, for instance, her sensitivity to loud/too much noise, or the way thinking about whales calms her nervous system and helps her understand things or put things together in a way her neurotypical colleagues don't
sometimes I wish it was possible to be like Hoshi Sato, just picking up entire languages in a couple days
I always watch stuff with subtitles bc I have some minor auditory processing issues¹
lately I've been watching a lot of dubbed² stuff³ and it's been really fascinating seeing the differences between the dubs and the subtitles meant as a translation for the original language
I mean, it's similar to the way subtitles meant for #Deaf and #HardOfHearing viewers are sometimes slightly off from what was said (which is an #accessibility issue)
#disability #AuditoryProcessingDisorder #linguistics
¹ it's worst over the phone, which is fun since that's my whole job, or if I otherwise can't see the person who's speaking, which sometimes happens in TV/movies
² I finished #Ranma12 and started #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo
³ or, in the case of #StopHibariKun, both an anime and a manga with fan translations by different people
Extraordinary Attorney Woo was my 1st kDrama.
In #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo, our Autistic attorney's fascination is on whales. I can't help but think that #Naver missed an opportunity there, you know, their Chromium-based browser #Whale.

📰 I also appeared in “Sports Seoul” and 📺 in “The Daily Report” (Arirang) after my episodic explanations of the #Kdrama #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo ( #이상한변호사우영우 ) went viral.

I have, in fact, watched #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo and I enjoyed it overall. However, it's far from my favourite #kdrama and there are way too many good ones out there! I hadn't watched any western TV or streaming services for 14 years when #kdrama entered my life. To say that it's an obsession would be putting it mildly!
I'm hoping for a season 2. Extra. Woo was my first kDrama & Kang Tae Oh was the first quest I went on. I am hoping that My Drama List is right since they have all the cast there.
I read that the screenwriter is trying to finish up another project & hasn't yet written this script yet, so if it happens, it's probably a 2025 thing.

Watching #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo and loving the main character. My nephew falls on the autism spectrum so she is very relatable to us.
I took a break from Extraordinary Attorney Woo to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender (the old cartoon, not the Netflix disaster), Fallout, and 3 Body Problem.
I've returned to Extraordinary Attorney Woo today.
I'm about 2 episodes from the end of what they've recorded so far.
My take:
- I like Woo, the way they depicted her, and the way she deals with her condition. I like most of the stuff not related to the law in this show.
- I hate the legal aspect of this show. I'm not Korean, but I'm convinced that they milk the legal scenes for maximum drama, realism be damned. I hate this.
Legal Eagle did a reaction video about Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney in which he had a Japanese attorney with him. They demolished it. I'd expect the same thing to happen if Legal Eagle did the same thing with Woo. Here's the Ace Attorney video:
I've just seen the episode of Extraordinary Attorney Woo that involves a visit to a temple. (I think the temple is still featured in the next episode, but I haven't seen this one yet.)
The Zen lineage I'm in actually comes from Korea. As I recall, the subtitles were talking about making homage to Kshitigarbha, but that's the Sanskrit name of the Bodhisattva called Jijang in Korean. He is the Bodhisattva of the underworld, death, and transitions.
I do feel an affinity for Jijang. Maybe because of my propensity to walk through hell for the benefit of my partners. :catthinking:
Oh, Attorney Woo used the proper form for bowing during the ceremony.
Still watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo:
Attorney: "There is order in the courtroom. This is not some marketplace fight."
Ahahahahahahah, good one! :madjoy:
(I'll remind you that my assessment of the legal realism in this show is "Hollywood law.")

Some thoughts on Extraordinary Attorney Woo...
I've seen up to and including episode 4.
I like Woo. I find her interesting.
I like the treatment of autism in the show.
However. I dislike some of the soundtrack. It sounds childish to me. Not a fan.
I also hate the court scenes. Yes, yes, this is Korean law, which is significantly different from American law. Still, some of the legal maneuvering looks strikingly similar to Hollywood law. Not a fan of this either.
I searched for articles about the legal realism of this show, but came up empty-handed.
