Remediating thousands of untracked security vulnerabilities in #nixpkgs
Through vendoring, many packages in #nixpkgs end up including obsolete and vulnerable versions of their dependencies. This is especially prevalent for #Rust, #Go, #JavaScript, #Java and #DotNET software using strict lockfiles. How bad is the current situation really? What can #nixpkgs contributors do to improve it?

The good part is that my recognized value with my #FOSS work, finally has hardened enough within me, that it keeps the self-doubt away. So when I get rejected from giving a conference talk about AI (as is what happened with #fosdem2024 ) or having my right to belong to something like #Nivenly constantly challenged, I can remind, nay, *prove* to myself that I am actually worth it, but the system has always been rigged against neurodivergent people from the start.

#COBOL, that obsolete language that's been supposed to "die in 5 years" for 65 years ? With over 800 billion lines of code (according to a Micro Focus study), it's like the Highlander of programming languages.

But, being a paragon of the closed model, there are #opensource projects to follow, such as the #GnuCOBOL compiler. Here is a presentation of the project at #FOSDEM2024 (@fosdem) by Fabrice LE FESSANT and Simon SOBISCH 🦕
