Fabergé’s The Winter Egg sold for nearly £23 million (€26 million) at Christie’s in London, setting a new world auction record.

Commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II in 1913, it is one of 43 surviving Imperial Easter Eggs, prized for its rarity and craftsmanship.

A rare diamond-encrusted Fabergé egg crafted for Russia’s Tsar Nicholas II has sold at auction for a record-breaking £22.9 million.
The 112-year-old Winter Egg is one of 43 surviving jewelled eggs made by the House of Fabergé in St Petersburg for the Russian royal family before it was deposed in a revolution in 1917.
The 10cm tall curio is made from finely carved rock crystal, featuring intricate engravings and more than 4,500 diamonds. It opens to reveal a removable diamond and platinum basket carrying a posy of white quartz flowers, symbolising the arrival of spring.
