Wow. There’s a #FadGadget cover on the new #Ministry album. Nice. I remember going to to see Depeche Mode on the Exciter Tour just to see Fad Gadget live, they’d asked him to open on their tour reversing the tables from early in their career. It was a very memorable show. Frank Tovey went all in, played all his classics. Baffled a lot of folks in the audience who obviously had no clue of DM history, though. Tovey sadly passed away shortly after.

Uncle Al‘s new Album is solid Ministry fair. 🤙

With a record of him playing it’s hard to not get sentimental …

O Fad Gadget ήταν ο πρώτος καλλιτέχνης που υπόγραψε στην ανεξάρτητη Mute records. To μουσικό του στυλ με τα synths επηρέασε τους Depeche Mode (που απεχθάνομαι). Το ´81 κυκλοφόρησε το Incontinent στην Mute και την επόμενη χρονιά οι DM βγάζουν το The Meaning of Love, φτηνή ποπ για την Ελίτ.
Το σινγκλ το αγόρασα για το Oberkorn (B-Side) που δεν μπήκε πότε σε δίσκο και πλησιάζει σε αυτά που έκανε ο Fad. Σαν σήμερα θα γινόταν 67.

I'm a huge Frank Tovey fan. I know not many have heard of him.

A buddy of mine told me that Fad Gadget (Frank Tovey's first musical project) was on the soundtrack to Stranger Things Season 2. I was in complete shock...

That was a few weeks back. Since then I have watched the first 2 seasons and heard Back To Nature playing... I nearly cried from happiness.

I just found and purchased the season 2 soundtrack on CD with Fad Gadget on it...

I am still in disbelief that his work was featured 20 years after his passing...

When Fad Gadget started, a new and unknown band opened for him... that was Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode stated that Frank Tovey was an inspiration to them. Clearly, Frank never got the success that Depeche Mode did. His work was less radio friendly.

So... His work goes largely unknown.

Thank you, Frank, for all the wonderful years of experimental music. :)
