Frind's new album coming out on March 3rd, 'Stance', will also be available on a site generated with Faircamp!

I've been playing with my faircamp site, trying to get an embedded player working on mastodon.

It turns out that you can do it by adding a couple of lines of HTML to a faircamp page.

But I prefer a short, seperate HTML file to generate the player card, so I can add that file anywhere on my site, and don't need to edit faircamp pages.

Notes here if anyone wants to try it. (Note: it doesn't work on all fedi clients. It works on the mastodon web app though.)

I shared the story of setting up on my homelab. Spoiler: it was pretty easy to do.

I don't miss the bad old days of ssh into prod... but deploying a site via rsync felt like a breath of fresh air compared to all the complexity I've fallen into accepting as table stakes.

Thanks to the amazing Faircamp workshop at Foulab last Sunday, the recordings for Foulab's first Noise Hacking Night are now online. Thanks to those who attended as well!

Okay, Faircamp by @freebliss is cool as hell! I still have to edit a few of the .eno files but I should have a sweet looking music site online by this weekend.

The flag "--theming-widget" is the coolest damn thing.

All static site generators (and other things) should steal this concept.

EDIT: maybe it was stolen from somewhere I don't know but anyway it should be pervasive as a technique

Bad news: kick drum head is on the way out. worried it won't make it through the next few weeks of practice much less show. Sadly it is beyond gaffer tape or that armour tape.

Good news: Had some help deep cleaning the micro blackbox theatre space and it feels better and should be less triggering to some of my ancillary hate buffet of ailments.

Great news: I am wildly "ahead" of schedule building the new live show as it was so much fun remixing, reworking, arranging and adding to 25-28 year old stems! All the mixes are sounding proper rowdy. Ahoy to your neighbours!

Shit news: no donations so far this month. no Fedi leads for any donate what you can sound commissions or even proposals for later in the year. I didn't want to post and boost all month about coin or at all really, I hate it, but here we are. Last year was the first time in years I was able to even try to drum again and I rather don't want to sell my kit. This post got heaps of eyes and boosts but no action:

Can you help with an advanced but not required "ticket" for the 19th March show?

My campaign for the year is only to help offset what I need to offer everything I do for free, servers, a few parts as needed to keep the shows rolling which I think they are a pretty well received and worthy hangouts, secure some help with visual art and post production on a few projects, and help me with heat in the studio supplemental food and meds when winter rolls in as an unwaged subsistence farmer. The stress removed allows more space to art hard, and some coin in pocket helps me be able to do more free collabs and remixes and backstage tech and advocacy.

Again, there's much more pressing issues out there for your support but if you receive or would like to help amplify the beauty in the darkness energy from the oontz and related activities, I would love to hear ideas for projects and would receive any support with massive appreciation.

Or it's a great time to donate anything you can if you can and take what you like from my catalogue on my faircamp. Bound to be something in there approaching tolerable? Even if no commissions or donations eventuate, everything I manage to release will always be free or donate what you can in solidarity until we get costed out of even hosting our audio downloads.

So I learned about and I'm intrigued.

I can now tentatively say that there will be speed-ups - and possibly quite significant ones - in #faircamp 2.0.

For one, if you're using the graphical interface, faircamp will¹ "pre-preprocess" (= analyze audio and generate waveforms for) your entire catalog in the background while you're just still exploring the interface and fiddling with texts and settings. I'm planning to also expose this as a `faircamp --warmup` (or so) option in the CLI, so that you can let this pre-preprocessing run while you're still editing things in the manifests (way before building). So in both cases, when you finally request a build, a considerable portion of the required processing might already be ready and waiting in the cache.

Then, because of the graphical user interface, I needed to make all internal data shareable across threads (that's pretty much done by now), and in turn we can reap the benefits in the form of concurrent processing.

I just now naively parallelized decoding, peak generation and encoding, testing with a single album with 17 tracks, and I'm seeing a ~5.5 times faster completion, or in other words, on my machine², a build that took one hour could be done in roughly 12 minutes now, if these figures hold in the larger picture.

(¹) implementation pending but I see zero blockers to that

(²) 16 cores, average i7

Too wiped to do a full rundown but the #Faircamp workshop went super well, thanks to everyone who came, helped, or just hung out. Several new music websites were born this night 🐣

I had a dream last night that I made #FairCamp make me a squash with an embedded mp3. It could only hold one song though.

Apropos of #BlackHistoryMonth, I present a song I wrote in commentary on the burden of the oppressed to fashion beauty from the void.
