So don't get me wrong! 40 mm external width is very much needed and also very helpful. Even for slower folks. This part is great about those new rims.

Zipp is just very late to the party!

And, with making these hookless (as they do with all of their rims) and sooo wide internally (32 mm) they narrow their use case unfortunately.

Because such rims (i.e. 40 mm external and aero) are also exceptional for randonneuring and ultracycling on road, not only gravel!

Zipp 303 XPLR late to the party and with questionable design limitations.

Ergo: for / gravel / allroad I'll stick to 2x and for bikepacking / adventure I stick to mtb cassette...

Enhanced Front wheel aerodynamics via collaboration of dtswiss, swissside & conti_bicycle

The heart of the system really is the new Conti AERO 111 front tire (available as 700-26c and 700-29c) with it's vortex generator intendations. According to tests you don't feel them riding. I nevertheless am apprehensive of the frequent deep cuts into the rubber tread for the purposes of riding (Ultras, Brevets).

But I’m very fond of the robustness and the wet grip of the AS TR so it may stay my main take. In any case this will be the tire for my next Ultra races on the road. Which will be Via Race, Chapter One this summer.

But before that, you will see me on my Dropbar Exceed in Girona for El Piri. :)

My current tire pick for road fastfar and why.

Let's see how many Mastodon Posts I need for the bit of text I'd love would fit in one but doesn't. Even on Instagram I need the caption and one comment. But - that's only two at least and they are in one post :) So in any case: first the direct link to that source (where I also post much more than here anyways):

So back to the new BMC Roadmachine. I asked BMC about 2 important things on Instagram.
Wonder whether and how they will answer.

1.) "Stealth Dropouts". Burn it with fire. I challenged them to provide the actual cdA reduction you can see in the tunnel (would be surprised if they can). But more importantly - it makes it impossible to mount stuff like e.g. a tailfin (stuff you also very much like to have to go ). There are other things why it's not a feature anyone would like.

New wheels. They understood Gravel Aero!

Cool detail: Rose also introduced their new Rose GC50 Carbon Gravel wheels.

50 mm deep and 40 mm external width for the front (32 for the rear). Total weight: ca. 1550 g

And they aren't exclusive for grave. Pair them with e.g. a Schwalbe Pro One 38 mm and you'll have an awesome rig.

My No. 22. Bicycle Drifter. By today's standards a race gravel bike. Or maybe even a roadbike. Or an endurance bike. Certainly a bike.
And guess what - I exactly wanted it this way and specced it as such already back in 2019. I’ve now enjoyed well more than 35.000 km on it and intend to have more to come. :)

Here you see a quite colorful version from Summer 2021.
