Today's Father's Day. I'm thankful for my dad, and we're about to remind him of that fact by the ritual group-eating, which, no complaints. 8)
However, I just want to take a moment and say I'm also grateful for the fediverse. I think here hopefully I've been helpful to a person or two, and I know that I have a myriad of people to thank for being helpful to me.
And I'd like to highlight this for a minute. I think at least those using ActivityPub (which is kinda a weird way to measure, but stick with me for a minute) natively (meaning not Threads or something with a bridge like bird.makeup) I know maybe 4 people in real life in my entire personal fedi-universe... and I am so much richer for all of you who I know just in the context of the fedi and might not have met any other way!
Thanks for making my life great, for entertaining me with cats and dogs and birds and blooms and windows, for telling me about what stupid thing Adobe or Microsoft or even Red Hat is doing, what to look out for and who got pwned, and for making me snort milk out my nose laughing so hard at least a few times each week, not to mention the absolutely unmentionables (the NSFW content, I mean, the whaaa?) that really breaks up nicely the dumpster fire that is our legal and international government status writ large at the moment.
You guys and gals and theys and thems and all the things inbetween and outside that spectrum, alla yinz (sorry, from Pittsburgh) are all awesome. May your lives be gifted with the same energy you put out, and on the whole I'd say if that happens you're all going to be rich in effort, love, the aid of those around you (or far far away from you even! I know how y'all work, aiding the stranger) and friends and family and hope and comfort and thoughts and prayers (the ones that matter, not the ones substituted for action!) and information and critical thinking and software updates. And critter friends.
