#Fediview

Just learned about #Fediview (๐Ÿ”— fediview.com/) trying to find out how to see #popular or #relevant posts on #mastodon.
Does anyone have other ideas on this?

(Is there any such thing as too many hashtags on the #fediverse?) ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Just declared feed bankruptcy after a work trip kept me from all of your posts. Iโ€™m thankful to be back home sleeping in my own bed, and for #fediview

@flaki @phanpy @cheeaun I totally dig #phanpy and I agree it's really cool. But I haven't yet got the hang of #CatchUp. The thing is, I don't want to catch up on all the things that I missed. And while it does offer some filters, I feel it's still a lot of work to find what would be relevant. Or did I miss the point? (I like #Fediview in this regard, which allows me to configure an algorithmic timeline, but then forget about the settings and just browse relevant recent posts.)

@andypiper well, anyone who scrapes data off my instance's API; I feel like Mastodon ought to do this at the instance level since the instance already has the data

@shimriez@zotum.net Yeah, there are some uglier parts for sure and some ugly parts of the culture, but there are improvement abounds. I am so excited for both the near term and long term future. There are also many projects that I didn't list and or don't even know about.
Like
#Sup a #Fedi WhatsApp alternative, there's a Pinterest styled platform being worked on, #Goldfish is like Snapchat/Tiktok, #Fediview allows users to view an multiple options of a #Mastodon algorithmic view, my platform #Memory etc It is truly an exciting time!

Three #Mastodon / #Fediverse tools that I discovered recently and that are quite powerful:

- #Fediview fediview.com/ โ€“ A configurable algorithmic timeline for your feed.
- #Followgraph followgraph.vercel.app/ โ€“ Suggests accounts to follow based on who your contacts follow.
- #Phanpy phanpy.social/ โ€“ An alternative web UI for Mastodon. Hugely improves the overall experience for me.

I knew I wrote a post with all my revenue/expenses a while ago and I knew it had "plausible" in it. So, I searched via Mastodon. No dice.*

Then, I searched via fediview.com/plus and there it is was! Nice when I solve future me's problems. ๐Ÿ˜‚

*Sometimes searching on my Mastodon instance server _does_ return my personal posts, so I'm not sure exactly what is going on.

One of my favorite tools I use with #Mastodon is #FediView from @adamghill which lets me very quickly see what popular posts I might have missed from my home feed. Especially helpful in the morning. It seems to struggle with the Federated feed but works with my Home feed just fine.

The previous version of fediview.com was a giant page with lots of buttons and inputs to fill in. It had grown organically as I just kept adding in new things over time.

I just released a new version with steps:
1: Authorize (either via logging in through your #mastodon instance or manually)
2. Configure your algorithm
3. See the summary

My hope is that it's less overwhelming for new visitors. My worry is that it's more annoying for returning users.

- Ever wonder which emojis you use most in Mastodon posts?
- Which tags do you use most frequently?
- Do you ever want to search your personal posts for something you said?

These are a few of the fun new features coming to fediview.com soon. Message me or reply if you would be interested in being an alpha tester. ๐Ÿคฉ

So I've been getting into the habit of using fediview.com in the mornings to get a quick catch-up of my Home and Federated feeds from overnight. Pretty useful for just seeing what you might have missed over the last 10 hours.

fediview.com/ is interesting but I think one thing it doesn't do that maybe most people would expect from this kind of sorting is pull the engagement numbers for each post from the post's home instance.

Because favorites, boosts, replies are federated, your own instance only knows about some of the engagement on each post. If a post is popular and well-spread, your instance is likely missing out on a lot of engagement..

Based on feedback from a new GitHub Sponsor, I just added language filtering to fediview.com.

See other potential features I've been thinking about: fediview.com/plus.

@adamghill #Fediview (which is excellent) seems to be broken for me (and maybe others). It asked me to log in again today, so I checked if something had happened to my auth token, but it looked fine. So I revoked it, and logged in again. Now it's telling me (intermittently) that the token is revoked, even though I see it as valid in the web interface on my instance. Is this something other people have noticed?

@adamghill. Have you consider #fediview becoming a feature of some mastodon client eventually or becoming a client itself? #popularfeed

@KarlE Thank you for mentioning it. I intended to thank for several comments of him, not specific one. In this thread, so many topics, issues, and recommendations have been discussed! I wanted to explain my general view.

For background info, the FAQ page of #Fediview is well-written and succinct. It may answer questions that you might have. fediview.com/faq

@UlrikeHahn I mean, it is possible to test if an algorithm is programmed and works as the developer says. We can see the scripts and run them in a local environment (e.g., in a terminal of my laptop). We can compare these results with the results from #Fediview.
