About 6 months ago I paid $5 for a cheese, bacon and leek tart at a frozen food packager’s seconds shop. The thing was enormous, a 40 x 10 cm rectangle and 2 cm thick. I thawed it yesterday, cut 25% of it off and cooked it in my Ninja Foodi Air Crisper/multi-cooker. I chose to cook it at 165ºC for 9 minutes on the bake/roast setting.
This heated it thoroughly, crisped the pastry and browned the top. It could not have been done better.
And it was delicious, eggy, cheesy, meaty with a hint of leek subtlety in the flavour. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat if they ever bring it back, but first I have to finish the rest of it. This will be no trial.
