The Viking Link is an electrical feeder from offshore wind to the national system; there is always rescue archaeology before building projects.

And as a bonus, here's today's murmuration, in clearer skies :)

I bought a stack of old local postcards. Cambridge (town not gown) and some from the Fens. Amongst them was a brilliant Fabulous Fenland card showing off a local onion farm.
Anyway, on the back was the URL for the publisher who turned out to be this genius art gallery in a caravan which produces art that celebrates "overlooked and occasionally bizarre aspects of everyday life".
#Fenland #PlanningApplication #FYR220844O #Wisbech off Stow Road. Cambridgeshire CoCo still asking good questions. #KLWNBUG should make similar objections. This could be a useful new route to/from the Smeeth but this development will also turn the #A47 Broadend Road crossroads into a roundabout which could be good or bad #space4cycling

A bit of #fun. My attempt to #map #historic #dialect terms for the #stickleback. Which is your #favourite? What #names are #local to you? When did you last see/catch one? They used of congregate in their millions in #Fenland #ditches and #dykes. #Farmers even used #fresh sticklebacks as #manure, spread straight on to their #fields. I hope you like the #scale. Half term so the girls and I headed north across the Fens and along a drove (sat nav madness) to Fens Falconry where we spent a very lovely evening learning about their owls and watching them fly.
Another wet day in the fenlands of Lincolnshire.
Trinity Bridge in Crowland is a 14th century triangular bridge that was built to cross the confluence of the River Nene and the Welland.
I have yet to discover where the water went after the two rivers joined 🤷♀️

@typejunky another lovely essay. Thanks. So beautifully written and evocative. My family also migrated from Yorkshire (from the village Harpham- still my surname) to the fens. To grow potatoes and keep pigs. My father had to leave school aged 11 to tend them. Here’s a memory of my #fenland. #aiart
