AI has been infiltrating knitting and crochet spaces, filling them with useless patterns. Here's why that's happening and what can be done about it.

Question for people who do embroidery or other fibre arts: When is a rest of yarn so short you consider it useless and throw it away?

Keep warm with your art history post for today: Crazy Quilt, ca. 1887–1900, Louisa Joiner (1844–1911), silk, ribbons, lace, velvet, embroidered, heat transfer; 186.7 x 182.9 cm (73 1/2 x 72 in.), The Cleveland Museum of Art. More info in ALT. #art #arthistory #fiberart #womanartist #womenartists #quilting

“And what is life? A crazy quilt;
Sorrow and joy, and grace and guilt,
With here and there a square of blue
For some old happiness we knew;
And so the hand of time will take
The fragments of our lives and make,
Out of life's remnants, as they fall,
A thing of beauty, after all.
— Douglas Malloch, “The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America.”

From the museum: “Crazy quilts got their name from being made of seemingly random scraps of material assembled in an apparently arbitrary pattern… Made from an eye-catching combination of fabrics and ribbons, this quilt was created by Louisa Joiner, whose initials appear on a panel at lower right. Some of its pieces are believed to be scraps cut from clothing worn on lake cruises. Little is known about the artist aside from the fact she was married to a captain who sailed on the Great Lakes.”

Hey I’m not dead. I’ll lore dump on another post.

After nearly 2 decades #crocheting and multiple failed #knitting attempts, I got circular knitting needles for some crazy reason and purposed in my heart to make my husband a hat.

I frogged this so many times and it’s obviously not a proper knitted hat. But it’s something. A friend told me that she brings her loom knitted project to sit and relax instead of scrolling so she has something tangible to show where her time went. That’s what knitting is for me. I sit in front of the couch, watch YouTube with my husband and voila! A concept of a hat.

It’s bad, there’s no actual brim, but I’m happy with it and Tim’s happy with it. Point is guys, make art, even if it’s bad and just enjoy it. Everyone needs to find some hobby they can sit and do. You won’t regret it! #fiberart #fiberartist #beginnerknitting #stockinettestitch #knit

Artist Irene Saputra of South Jakarta has created the most intriguing series of embroidered figures modeling big dresses and wide-legged trousers. Some of the outfits are on the abstract side and others are more realistic, but they are all fun and playful.

Got to show off some of my / / work to a shop owner at the mall yesterday.

I was really flattered, but she said, "This is *beautiful*! You should sell these! How long did it take you to make?"

...😶...

...ummm...

...Almost a year?? 😬😅

Es ist fertig! Endlich!
