No ens enganyem, l'objectiu principal de la visita als Secans en primavera és el sisó. Me'n faig creus que una gallina d'aquesta mida encara es pugui trobar en estat salvatge a Catalunya.

Quan ja marxàvem, cansats i suats, se sent l'inconfusible cant en un guaret. Llarga estona repassant els marges (la majoria de vegades estan a la perifèria dels camps), per descobrir un cap fosc que s'aixeca i torna a desaparèixer després de deixar anar el seu reclam. I més enllà canta un altre, i un altre. Finalment, s'acaben animant i salten, amb aquell vol de bategar tan curt que sembla que no moguin les ales, però que produeix aquell 'siseig' tan característic. Els diversos mascles (les femelles són pràcticament impossibles de localitzar) comencen a perseguir-se i passen arran sense cap vergonya.
