If you're interested in using Python for music, whether that's algorithmic composition, computational music theory, or musicology, you've doubtless encountered music21. It's great, but can be a bit prickly. MIT has a great Open Courseware course with music21's creator, Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert, and it's really great! (Yes, that was the third time I said 'great' and that was the fourth.)

![The image is a black and white photograph depicting five children sitting on the edge of an elevated dirt surface, possibly part of a playground or construction area. They are dressed in traditional East Asian clothing that varies slightly from child to child, suggesting cultural diversity among them.
From left to right: The first child wears a striped garment with wide sleeves and pants, layered over which is another dark-colored robe tied at the waist with a belt. This child's hair is short-cropped, and they are looking directly towards the camera with a neutral expression.
The second child is wearing what appears to be traditional East Asian headgear known as "kong bua" or "kowtowing hat," which indicates some cultural practice related to rituals such as paying respects or receiving honors. This child also wears an outer garment similar in color and style to the first, with pants tucked into boots.
The third child is wearing a different outfit compared to his peers; it's darker-toned and lacks distinct patterns or layers. Their headgear matches that of the second child but appears more worn out. They are actively engaging with someone off-camera on their right side while looking back towards the camera, displaying an excited expression.
The fourth child wears what seems like a military-style cap indicative of historical periods where such hats were popularized in [...]](https://files.mastodon.social/cache/media_attachments/files/115/770/256/521/743/376/small/54613862a1836ed5.jpeg)

![The image is a black and white photograph showing five men sitting on the steps of what appears to be an older bank building. The setting suggests it could be from early 20th-century America, judging by their attire and the architectural style.
Four of the men are seated closely together with hats or caps on, indicating possibly outdoor work environments such as farmers or laborers. They appear relaxed, casually leaning against one another while they converse or engage in various activities like smoking cigarettes.
The fifth man stands to the left, seemingly more formal compared to his companions, wearing a suit and hat that is slightly different from those of the others, suggesting he might be an office worker or someone with a higher social status. He has folded arms over chest which could indicate contemplation or authority.
Behind them, part of another building displays signage indicating it's possibly a business establishment like "Title Co." (likely referring to title insurance company) and mentions legal services such as 'land lawyer.' The bank sign above the entrance is prominent with legible text that reads "National Bank" followed by information about its membership in an official reserve system.
A metal gate, part of what could be a fence or security barrier for another establishment, occupies the right side of the frame. It features geometric patterns and adds to the overall urban feel of the photograph's [...]](https://files.mastodon.social/cache/media_attachments/files/115/574/929/182/745/719/small/65a636b1f20e5b27.jpeg)
